Hi all

I just wondered what you all thought about this.
I have (had) two cats that are sisters. I have had them for about 2.5 yrs, they have lived in this house since they were 8 weeks old. A week ago last Monday Abbey went missing, I never really gave it much thought as Abbey likes to go for a wander for a couple of days then come home, by Thursday I was distraught as she hadn't come back. Meanwhile Fifi her sister who has always been more of a house cat seemed to be moping about. Yesterday I went throught the usual getting out to work on time in the morning routine. This has always involved Fifi coming out to the car to say goodbye. When I come home from work at 12 Fifi is always sitting waiting for me to get back inside. Not yesterday :(  I thought it was very strange and went out for a bit of a search to no avail. She always always comes in at night but she didn't last night. I can't understand it. I think someone has either lifted them or taken a really bad dislike to them and has "got rid" so to speak. I have phoned all the local vets, the local cats protection and as a last straw I even phoned the cleansing department to see if anything had been handed in or cleaned up. A friend asked if anyone new had moved into my area, there has been a new family move in about a fortnight to 3 weeks ago. The thing is because the house has been sitting empty my cats have been frequenting the garden. I am hoping that it is just coincedence that my cats have gone missing.
Sorry for the long post, but I can't get my head around this as it is so strange that they should both go within a week of the other. The kids have only just come to terms with losing one cat I really don't know how to tell them about Fifi.

Alli, I hope that they both turn up safe and well :(

Maybe they have managed to get into this house, and now can't get back out. Could you not go round and try and see if you can see them, or maybe call there names and see if you can get a response?

I have only ever had one of my cats go missing. She had gone for about 3 weeks, then one day she re-appeared looking very sorry for herself.

Fingers and paws crossed for you.

sorry to here about your cats.i would consider going to the new peoples house and asking them if they have seen the cats.i wouldnt expect them to say yes.even  if they had.i would say the kids are devastated and you just dont know what to do.if they have dumped them elsewhere they may feel guilty and return them.
i hope they return .

Hi there thanks for the replys

I saw the new people today when I came home from work. I made a point of shouting the cats names. I am kinda scared to go and ask them as they don't seem to be the most savoury of characters. Story goes, Woman who used to own the house came into quite a bit of money. So she gave the house to relatives who come from one of the worst areas of the town. Since they have moved in there has been lots of noise and disturbance, shouting and fighting. Just after they moved in there was a tiny girl at the front door of their house trying to entice Abbey inside. I saw this and called Abbey in. I know it's a terrible thing to be suspecting people but it all seems very strange that the cats have lived here quite happily for this amount of time, then they move in and both cats go missing. I will also add that I had an argument over my cats going to the loo in one of the other neighbours garden last year. I fenced off an area of the garden and had a sand box installed which resolved the problem and I now get on fairly well with these neighbours, since the arrival of their Cocker, they quite often ask for advice and we normally always stop for a chat if we see one another, so I don't think it has anything to do with them.

Heres hoping Fifi has gone off to find Abbey

In your position I would make colour posters (if you have photos all the better ;) ) and put them in local vets, cats protection, shops, dog warden, and in local letterboxes for a few streets.  I would also contact the police in case any other cats have gone missing in the area.  I would emphasise they are childrens pets and make sure that all the houses in the street had a copy and for a few streets around. You never know someone may know something but not know who to contact.

Hope you find your girls
Regards

Hi all

I am soooo happy. I recieved a phone call from the Cats protection saying that they had a wee black female cat handed into them this morning. It was Fifi, she had been found about 25 miles away from home, no sign of Abbey though. I just wonder if Fifi would actually wander away that distance or had she been taken and dumped. Anyway I have been this morning and picked her up, brought her home and given her a good brekkie. The woman asked if for any identifying marks before she let me in to see her, so I gave her all the info I could. But like the woman herself said once Fifi heard and saw me there was no doubt that she was my cat. She was yowling the place down and desperately trying to get out of the run thing they had her in as soon as she heard my voice. I had to sit in the car for 5 mins before I could see through the tears so I could drive home.
From a very very happy Alli

P.S Can't wait for the kids to come home, they will be over the moon.

Oh that's fantastic news about Fifi! I'm so pleased for you! :) I had a cat go missing many years ago, and it was awful never knowing what had happened to him. I still wonder. So I hope you'll hear something about Abbey. Fingers crossed.

25 miles away? Queens rarely roam and even full blooded toms only have a roaming territory of 4 mile radius. It's fantastic that Fifi is home but I'd keep a close eye on her. It's a shame she can't talk. I'd perhaps put posters up of Abbey in the area Fifi was found. I'd definitely put a missing ad in the local paper.
When I worked for CPL there was one motorway in particular that was notorious for cats being dumped. It was so frequent it's hard to believe it was different people.
I hope Abbey is home soon.

Give Fifi a catkiss from me :)

Thanks for the replies

I am just so happy. Fifi will def be kept indoors for a while, may even have to make it permanent. I would rather not but after this I couldn't risk losing her again. I'm really hoping that Abbey turns up too. I'm not so confident that she will though as I said before that she is far more self sufficient than Fi. Abbey is more wary of strangers too which won't help her. The house was strangely quiet without the cats even with the three dogs. My eldest dog Keevy came into the kitchen while Fi was having her brekkie and she seemed really pleased to have her home as well. She was wagging her tail and doing the whole I'm the Mum thing and cleaning Fi's bum. Fi was purring like mad. It made me cry all over again. My OH's office has a no personal calls policy, but I couldn't help myself I had to phone him :D He was delighted too lol.
I am just about to make posters and phone the local paper to place an ad so hopefully Abbey will be found safe and well too.

Sorry for the long posts but I'm just sooo happy

great news .the distance is abit worrying bet she was dumped...
- By bullphi [gb] Date 09.12.04 11:57 UTC
So glad you have one back - let's hope the other turns up too. It all sounds very suspicious to me.
- By Dill [gb] Date 09.12.04 16:15 UTC
I'm so glad you've got Fi back, hope you find Abbey too, its awful when you don't know whats happened to them.  If you're worried about their safety when going out it is possible to compromise and make the garden secure so that they can have access to the garden but not the wider world.  I have a copy of a leaflet produced by the Burmese Cat Club which I can e-mail you if you wish.

Hi all

I sit here typing with a grin like a cheshire cat. I was out for my usual morning walk with the girls this morning and my oldest Keevy did something really strange, she took off across the park and put her head in the bushes completely ignoring me, which is very unusual for her as she has always had a fantastic recall. I shouted and whistled her again and after a few mins she eventually came running back. I carried on with my walk and happened to look over my shoulder and there is a very bedraggled Abbey trotting along behind us. I think Keevy must have known she was in the bushes and gone to tell her we were there. She has very sore red pads and she is very thin, she was also starving and very very thirsty. So she has had something to eat and drink and is now snuggled up in a box having a well earned rest. Fifi wanted to clean her up but Abbey didn't seem too keen, I am hoping she was too tired for Fi's attentions.

How happy am I?

oh that's great news. I have been worried about her & I don't even know her - so God knows what you must have been going through.

So glad she's back!

Its so lovely to have her home. I was dreading Christmas without her. I felt that my family was incomplete. God only knows where she has been, I just wish she could tell me what happened.
Thankyou for all your messages of support

Im glad both of your cats are ok, it must have been awful, I worry if mine are gone for a day

It does all sound very suspicious, it sounds as if Abbey may have walked a long way to get home, maybe she was stolen and dumped somewhere :(
- By earl [gb] Date 13.12.04 13:55 UTC
Alli, that's fabulous news!  I hope you all have a great Christmas together.  :)

Our little Tuppence was pts last October and we had a pretty miserable dog-less Christmas without him.  I missed his little face poking in the presents when I was trying to wrap them and his little paws trying to 'help'.  This year we have Roxy to share Christmas with and I'm really looking forward to it.

Glad to hear that they're both home safe :)

That's fantastic news! You must be over the moon! :) :)

Oh wow!

Ive just read this thread and i have tears streaming down my face. I have four of the little furries myself - all house cats as i dont feel confident letting them out where we live. If traffic doesnt get them something else will.

Im so very happy for your family and especially for Abbey, im sure she is over the moon and well done Keevy! I hope you gave that dog a BIG treat!

Thats a really touching post and im so pleased for you all that you are back together.

I couldn't wait to tell the kids the good news. Tori came in from school today and said her friend had seen Abbey quite close to the area where she found me and the dogs. I told her to take a deep breath close her eyes and go very quietly into the kitchen and when she was in there she was not allowed to shout scream or make too much of a fuss as I didn't want Abbey frightened. Well Tori wenrt in the kitchen and saw Abbey and stood there with tears rolling down her face. She very quietly petted her and turned around walked out the back door and whooped and shouted with joy. George stil hasn't stopped crying and keeps saying it's fantastic thats she is home.

Thankyou once again for all the support
