Hi
Can anyone shine a light on what may be wrong with my 6 yr old TT bitch.
she has been giving littly snuffly sneezes, mainly when she gets up after being asleep and sometimes, but not often, she will make that gagging sound dogs do when they seem to catch their breath. I believe its called 'reverse sneezing'. This has been going on since the weekend. she is fine in every other way and is eating well. There is nothing different in the house that I can think of that may be irritating her nostrils. The only thing that is different, is, my OH is doing the bathroom, but this has been going on for ages, and he is using tile adhesive. Could this has some effect do you think?
Our other TT doesn't seem to be affected at all.
Can anyone advise anything I could give her.
Thanks

I have found various of my dogs do this when they get an interesting/exciting smell. It is I think like hyperventilating. I have found the best thing to do is to cover their nose and mouth for a feww seconds to stop them breathing, and they then stop it. My vet says it is nothing to worry about, but is due to a sensitive sense of smell. Hunting sogs of my bred often do this when they find the spoor of an Elg, and it is seen as overexcitment.

My immediate thought when reading your post was could this be a mild dose of kennel cough ? If so I would treat with homeopathy as antibiotics will not kill the virus just stop any secondary bacterial infections going on.

must admit this was my first thought as well

Have to agree, I thought kennel cough as well. We had a mild dose of it here a while ago now, and the symptoms sound exactly the same.
Just a thought though..do you know if there is kennel cough in your area? Maybe worth ringing your vet and asking. I did..and found it was rife here.
Take care,

Thanks you so much for your responses.
I must admit I wondered myself if it could be kennel cough. She did have it a couple of years ago but the symptoms were actual coughing, so what she's doing now, threw me!! As it isn't actually a cough.
She does seem to be doing it less today and I have given her some colloidal silver down her throat and a couple of drops in each nostril, (read that in a homeopathy book) and so far so good. I will do the same tomorrow and hopefully she will soon be back to normal.
If it is KC I shall have to keep an eye on my other bitch for the same syptoms.
Once again thanks for your help, all of you.
I'll keep you posted how she goes on

I'm pleased to say that Tara hasn't sneezed or caught her breath for 2 days now, so it looks like she is on the mend. Don't know if whatever it was has run its course, or the Colloidal silver has actually worked, but she's obviously feeling better as she started a play fight with her daughter today. I shall keep her in till after the weekend then start her on gentle walks again till shes 100% again.
