Hi,
All my dogs are loved family pets and will live all there lifes with me.I own 3 chihuahuas 2 who are already kc reg for show and one who isnt but is adored just the same.
I have showed both my chihuahuas, taken them to crufts and even if they dont win i know im taking the best dogs home anyway.
Since june this year i have been searching for another chihuahua as i just adore this tiny breed, but i have found lots of pups which would of been great but no one seems to kc reg them or if they do keep them for themselves.
I think one of the main problems is that i am looking for a bitch, I dont intend to breed with her, all my chi's are loved pets only, even though they are pets, my chis also take part in obedience, agility, show and are starting to learn heel work to music, which is great fun for them and for me.
I know breeders of chihuahuas can be very protective of their babies and many of them want them to go to a loving pet homes only, which it would go to but why doesnt anyone kc reg anymore?
As 90% of all adverts Or breeders you do contact over pups say it has a pedigree but no kc reg, pet homes only.
Is this the same in other show breeds? or is it just chihuahuas

In my breed you would be suspicious of anyone who didn't register their pups. Most breeders do put restrictions re registration of offspring and export, and you would be expected to do all the health tests before a breeder would lift these if you had one good enough to breed from.
I think your probably finding that the breeders are keeping the show quality bitches for themselves with the likelhihood of only having one in a litter if they are lucky and the ones wiothout papers are either not good breeeding, or if they are then perhaps they have some breed faults that the breeder feels they should go without papers. Don't really understanbd this practice, as with or without papers you cannot stop someone breeding (only registering the offspring) unless you neuter them before you sell.
I would be guided by the breed clubs. What does their dode of ethics say? In our breed it clearly states all pups to be registered and sold with papers.
