Topic Dog Boards / General / Excited new pup owner....HELP !!!
- By bluebell101 [gb] Date 03.12.04 22:57 UTC
Hi,

Well today I finally came face to face with a gorgeous black & tan CKCS bitch and I can't wait to bring her home. She is 3 weeks old at the moment and am bringing her home the 1st week of January. I have waited for 6 years to get my pup (wanted my little boy to be at an older age).
Can anyone think of any names that would suit a CKCS ?

Also I will spend this time buying all the bits that I need, and again if anyone has any suggestions or tips I would be so grateful. And finally what sort of toys can I buy. (As you can tell I am very new)

Thanks so much
Bye for now

Buy yourself a copy of 'The perfect Puppy' by Gwen Bailey. It's packed with info for the new puppy owner. I got my copy from Amazon :)

"And finally what sort of toys can I buy"

Hi,

i think latex toys are a good idea, as they dont break easily i hope. I know you can get like this latex chicken and duck in different sizes. Thier availale from the popular dog websites.

Congratulations on you CKCS pup, they are adorable. I have 8 at the moment (3 adults and 5 pups).

Girl names:
Tilly (my tri bitch is called Tilly)
Sasha
Pippa
Loulou
Lucy
Holly
Milly

Will keep thinking, I chose names and then when the pups were afew weeks older and ready to come home the names didnt suit them anymore !!

Sturdy bowls (not plastic) so they dont tip over, a brush so your cavvie will get used to being groomed at an early age, laytex toys as plush or cuddly make tear easily with pups sharp teeth, none-wicker bed (wicker splits) and most important alot of film or batteries for your camera!!

How about
Maisie
Millie
Rosie
Fern
Bracken

I have 3 chickens - they are called Tilly (only mention as this name appears in previous post!) Tosca and Two-tone!

maybe this is an obvious one but I'd get a covered hotwater bottle and some cheap flannelette pillow covers to wrap around it.  It really does help with night time sleeping - believe me! I have 2 pups under the age of one year..... Also get yourself some hard board sheets from the local DIY, only cost a couple of ££s each they are useful for blocking off the bottom of bookshelves/computer wires etc. I used brown masking tape to stick them in place. Not awfully pretty but they do the job. Some carpet samples too for covering your own - most carpet shops throw them out or charge a small fee.
Oh and LOTS of time to spare!! It really is like having a new baby in the house.

good luck....

'Prince' is a bit old fashioned byt very apt. :D

Charle would be an obvious one too.  Toff, Dandy all would go with the uppercrust royalty theme.

Get a baby gate or 2 - theyre only about a tenner from the For Sale ads in paper, and will keep pup safe when you need to do the ironing or wash the floor. It also stops her investigating the stairs.

Thanks for all your suggestions and tips !!! I love Maisie and am also thinking about Poppy (coz she was born in Nov). Millie I also like, but that is my little girl's best friends name. LOL

Totally agree about stairgates, luckily still have one in attic as it has to come out when my niece is visiting. Thought I could put it on kitchen door so she can freely roam in kitchen and conservatory without doing herself any mischief and the rest of the house ! Thanks for tips on latex toys. Will also get a nice big plastic bed and put a "vetbed" inside that for her.

Can't wait now until the New Year, no doubt will be on here loads after she comes home asking questions.
Bye for Now.

For a bed I find the best thing is a cage, when they are younger you can shut them in without having to worry about any damage they may cause themselves when they are asleep, also puppies need sleep and so you can put them in safely without children being able to easily get to them (also useful for children if you get a padlock! ;) :D ) When pup is no-longer pup you can leave the door open permently, our cages are all left open and we have races to who get the cage when its bed time!!!

As for names I like Maisie, its the name of one of our setters! :D crazy maisie....
