Hello all,

I'm new here and would like to return to showing after a 13 year break.
My problem is this, there is a show early next year that I would like to enter my dog for, I've just found out that the owner of my dogs 'dad' is judging it. Would it be considered 'bad form' for me to enter under him?

I seem to remember that this was the case if your breeder was judging, not sure if it applies in this case?

Thanks in advance.

(I should say that the show is a breed club members limited show)

I have never considered this to be a problem, as the stud dog owner may well not ever have seen the resulting pups from a litter sired by their dog.

In fact in the past I have done this on several occasions, and will be doing so at LKA next week.

With some of the top kennels if dogs that were sired by their dogs were not shown it would reduce the entry considerably.

I think it depends a lot on the breed. I've done it in my breed, as do others but maybe in numerically stronger breeds with far more CCs on offer it wouldn't be considered the done thing!

Its not a problem in our breed but then with many of the regularly used studs being owned by judges It would mean VERY small entries for them at shows.

Not a problem in my breed either. I think it is common is most breeds.

It's common in my breed too.

We do it, I think at a breed club show its ok aswell as lots of people enter these!

I wasnt aware you could do this ? I'm just thinking that If a dog is doing well then surely the stud dog owner would be aware of the relation to his own dog ? Isnt there an element of potential bias there ?

"Bias" - in the show ring   surely not  :D :D :D

Some breeds and breeders have certain highly successful producers in their stud base and to discount all of their progenies entries if the stud owner was judging could decimate the number of dogs there on the day :(   I don't think personally that most people should have a problem either showing under a stud dog owner themselves or as exhibitors reacting badly to someone else doing it.   It certainly doesn't bother me when people do it in my breed.

At the end of the day, disgruntled exhibitors always find SOME reason to fault the judges' outcome :D

Regards, Teri :)

Had this same question a couple of years back when the situation came up for us - and was told from many sources that it's fine - it's only the breeder you can't go under.
