just got home and my dogs have just chewed up my sky box and weed on my sofa.i have to great danes one 16 months the other one 6 months i used to leave the younger one in the kitchen and the older one in the living room no problem with the older one just the younger one.i thought i would let him have the run of the house with with the other one as he has chewed my kitchen up so i thought i would trust him with the run of the kitchen and living room as he might be board big no no. i have tried everything creat the lot but he was doing his dirt in there they are never alone for more than 3 hours my girlfriend is saying they must be kept outside where they have a big kennel but i have said no.could anyone tell me what else i could try?thanks sorry for the big story

OMG - this is me in a past life!

Unfortunately, Danes are very efficient chewers and they do ten times the damage that other dogs do.

Whats your routine when you leave them?
- By claudia [gb] Date 03.12.04 16:37 UTC
If you can't solve the problem, i am sure it would not hurt them to be in the kennel with a run for only thre hours. good luck. ps have they got plenty of there own toys.
- By Carla Date 03.12.04 16:44 UTC
I agree - I'd use a kennel for 3 hourse but no more else it will affect your house training.

thanks for reply there routine i allways let them out for a good 20 mins then  let them in they have plenty of toys and chews if anything to many.i dont wont to leave them out you might call me soft but i would be scared if they were stolen as there is a lot of that going on at the moment.they might be big dogs but if anyone offerd them a treat they would be off like a shot with them.

Do you feed them before you leave them?

What food are they on?

Are you doing any training with them?

Is the older one being walked now?
- By stewarrior [gb] Date 03.12.04 18:43 UTC
no i dont feed them befor i go out as i feed them at 7 in the morning and 5 in the evening,as they are not left on there own till 11.00 and my someone is allways back for 2.00 2.30 should i change?they are on skinners puppy for one and adult for the other, its not the 16 month old one that is the problem.i am just starting ringcraft classes next week as i am hoping to start showing as he is a lovley dog?at times.
- By Carla Date 03.12.04 19:08 UTC
Are they only getting skinners? They really need some extra food like Tripe or Naturediet as Skinners alone isn't really enough to give them the nutrients they need. The younger puppy also needs to be fed 3 times a day for anotehr couple of months.

Who was your breeder - was she in Cheshire by any chance?
- By stewarrior [gb] Date 03.12.04 19:36 UTC
my girlfriend does put some other stuff in it but i dont no what it is sorry i will ask.dont shout if  this is wrong but i give them tined sardines twice a week im sure you will tell me if its wrong.i use to feed him 3 times a day but he use to do his dirt every where. My vet has weighed him and said he is ok and as long as he doent loose weight or condition he will be fine on the two feeds.yes they are from cheshire are yours?
- By Carla Date 03.12.04 20:24 UTC
Let me know what she puts in the food.

Sardines are good for them - but they might make them go more often.

They do..erm...go to the loo a lot do danes! He still needs feeding 3 times a day though - not more food, just divided into 3.

Vets aren't always the best to talk to regarding danes.

Do you have any pics of them? :)
- By stewarrior [gb] Date 03.12.04 21:02 UTC
I will change him to three times a day. Are you who I spoke to a long time ago about your dane having a bald patch on his tail, the blue one?  I have got pictures, i have one blue and one harley. Dont know how to send pictures. How many dogs have you? what colour are they?
- By Carla Date 03.12.04 21:05 UTC
Yeah - Willis has a little bald patch on his tail. Are yours from Jo?

I have 2 - Willis, blue male who is 2 and a half and Phoebe a brindle bitch who is 2 (she's from another breeder).

You can email me directly here: email and send pics :)
