Is a labrador retriever and an australian shepard a good mix?  Is it a good family dog?  Would it be prone to alot of digging, barking, high strung?
Thanks.

Unfortunately, with a lot of first time crosses, it is impossible to tell which pups will have which characteristics from which parent :) They could all be similar or they could all be different, no one will be able to tell :)

Writing strictly out of experience with Aussies, I would say the dog would have a high potential to be high strung.  I've known Aussies well into their teens who still bounce off the walls.  Some Aussies are bad barkers/howlers, but Labs are generally not too noisy as a whole.  I would just worry if there were young kids, as a 50 lb. hyper dog could bowl kids over.

Any mix of dog is not good and you can never predict an outcome.  However alot of aussies are noisy and bouce off the walls, however aussies are extreamly good with kids on the whole.  Labardors, if its "show type" likely to be lazy, large and but Labs seem to be hyper aswell.  I think you will be looking at a noisy, outgoing random dog (and personally I can't see the cross looking that nice)

Just out of intrest why do you ask?  If you are intresed more about the Aussie then I can help you if you would like to contact me personally.  Insted of going for a cross breed why not look into getting a aussie or a lab, that way you can have a pedigree that they is more chance of predicting the temperment.
