I am designing a management plan for an advanced reproduction class and need some help...i have nine Pharaoh hound bitches that are estimated at a worth of $1800 I want to AI them ..I am having trouble finding the following information....cost of receiving cooled shipped semen...basically...i need to know how much it would cost to get not only the semen but physical and fertility checks on the stud and how much the health checks for the female would be....does anyone know how much it would cost to have semen collected and shipped for this Pharaoh hound operation...what age do you typically wean (6-8wks?) what is the average cost per litter?  thanks sarah stiles

I assume you are not based in the UK (where AI is very rare, and not allowed where both dog and bitch are resident in the UK) from the way you refer to dollars. I hope I'm right in thinking that this is a purely hypothetical exercise for a thesis, and has no basis in fact - surely nobody in their right mind would consider breeding from 9 bitches at the same time?

Oh, of course it is! Only thing I could think of was Artifical Intelligence! :D Well I was half way there! I thought the guest was actually planning on doing this experiment, which was a bit worrying. ;-)

i worked  it out back in july 2004, that if i did it from a dog from sweden for AI, the cost of collection from his vets, stud fees,flying it over,then inplanting into my bitch,the paper work with kc,with the time to do it will well over £1000.00

Hi Terri - agree with you - it's about £1000 per insemination - could be more, but certainly not less.  (For Guest's sake - that's about $2000 per bitch, which seems to be more than the cost of your 9 bitches.
