I have a 6 yr old male lab that we have had for 3 yrs now. We are looking to getting another rescue lab but I need some advice. Barney is a fantastic dog and we would dearly love another dog, but we have fostered another male lab short term but Barney hated it when he was here. Barney is castrated and the foster dog was not, but it kept trying to dominate Barney. Barney is a very loving gentle dog who loves to be the centre of attention and hates it if voices are raised. The foster lab was only here for one week but when he was trying to dominate Barney, Barney was making it clear he wasn't going to tolerate it but it was getting so bad with the other lab that my partner was trying to stop the dominant behaviour by telling Ted (the foster dog)to stop but obviously there was a change in tone in his voice, not so much rasing it but this is what Barney isnt used to every time this happened Barney would just go to bed and keep out of the way. Our problem is should we get another dog? or get a bitch? or get neither and just have Barney as an only dog?. The last thing we want to do is to upset Barney but we would really love to rescue another lab. Sorry its so long just wanted to give as much info as possible.
Thankyou
Kate
