Hello all, second post of the day!
Lula is now 4 months old and house trained in so far as she will take herself to the back door and let us know she needs to go out - fine, no problem so she knows where she's supposed to go. She has been like this since about 10 weeks old (we got her at 7 weeks).
However, she will not go through the night without at least a wee and sometimes a poo. She is crated and every now and then we keep the door off the crate to "test" her. Two nights ago there was nothing, so we tried it again last night and I was greeted with 2 wees and a poo this morning! I wonder if I'm expecting too much as my 14-month old Cavi dog (Oscar) was 100% housetrained at around 12 weeks but perhaps we were just lucky.
Also, I work a few hours a day, 3 days a week and really don't like the idea of leaving her locked in the crate when she's been locked in it all night so I alternate and leave her out some days and in on others. On the days she is left out I allow her the run of the lounge and kitchen with Oscar but she will either wee in the kitchen, on the lounge carpet or sometimes both! I have tried leaving Oscar in the lounge and her in the kitchen with the baby gate closed so that at least if she does go it's confined.
Finally, she will almost always only go to the toilet in the garden and not whilst over the park. She is over the park every day, twice a day but unless she is taken over first thing in the morning literally as I get her up she will not go. SHe will wait until we get home and go straight to the back door to be let out! Is that normal?
Is it too much to expect her to be 100% housetrained by now? Any advice/tips would be really great.
Sorry, also forgot to mention - she drinks like a fish (takes after me)! No seriously, compared to Oscar. She is on Purina Beta which was what the breeder was feeding her. I do intend to change it but not until she's 6 months old. I have mentioned it to the vets (currently visiting once a month for free puppy checks) and he cannot seem to find reason why she might and doesn't seem overly concerned. I think she might drink slightly more than most dogs as Oscar is very take it or leave it and prefers to drink out of muddy puddles as a rule!
