i was reading a thread the other day about a woman out walking with her kids she came across a man with 2 large white dogs  and was asking if they wer bandogs and if not what were they. well obviously i cant be sure as i didnt see the dogs but they sound like the dogo argentin a very large white breed used for guarding farms in italy do a search for some pics i hope this is of some help
