Poor Ickle Indi is very poorly at the mo :(
She started last night with a hacking cough and puked twice.
She has been to nursery today ( She was as happy as Larry and didn't have a temp :) )
She is not a HP bunney as she has been coughing so much,
We are giving her Calpol and Buttercup Cough mixture but she is really not well. Any ideas on alternative remedies ??

Hi , If Indi is coughing till she pukes, she may have Kennel Cough which is highly contagious to other dogs and can be life threatning to young and old dogs. Vet appointment Asap is the best thing, and keep her indoors away from other dogs. Even keep her in the car till your name is called at the vets. Hope Indi gets well soon Hound girl

LOL :D :D :D
Seriously, I'm sorry that Indigo is ill - it's awful with little ones when they can't tell you how they feel :(
Hope that she is better soon, Lucy

Why is this thread called ''Poorly Puppy Indigo'' then????
I must admit I wasnt sure if it is a puppy or baby!! I presume baby as she has said ''nursary'' and its on FOO board.
I hope shes better soon and take her to the doctors if you are worried.

I get equally confused when people talk about their dogs as boys or girls, and as for calling them 'my baby'

I use the term 'puppy' as a term of endearment :) Sorry for any confusion :)
She still is quite bad but will keep on with the cough mixture. I think a full nights sleep without being woken up will help her !

Hi Lucy
With a hacking cough I always found boiling a kettle of water in the room to steam it up helped. I used to tape down the switch so it would not automatically turn off, and obviously make sure it doesn't boil dry, but the moist atmosphere seemed to help.

Yes I had heard of that but s8d's law, the kettle decided to break on Tuesday and we haven't had time to go and get a replacement. :(
Good news, last night she slept through for most of the night :)
Bad news, I haven't had my morning cup of tea since Wednesday morning :(

boiling kettles in bedrooms sounds dangerous to me!! I used to hang a damp towel over the radiator, obviously it does not create steam like a kettle would but it does put moisture into the air. and nobody gets scalded. also I use olbas oil, on a baby, I would put just a few drops on some kitchen paper and place near to where baby sleeps.

Boiling kettles in bedrooms is the traditional remedy for croup.

Mason, I didn't mean to leave it in there - just until the room is steamed up, and you would watch it all the time. :) Doctors used to and (I think) still do advise it. :)
My doctor advised just this when my eldest had croup or coughs.

Glad she had a good nights sleep, and hope you did too :)
Hi Lucy , If you want constructive advise, please do not mislead us, One of my hounds is called Indiana (Indi). Hope your little baby is not still barking and you have not took her to nursery but her in the kept warm , by the way you can give buttercup syrup to pups that are coughing .Houndgirl

I wasn't trying to mislead :)
You are quite new but a lot of the old timers and friends on CD know Indigo and so that is why ! :)
She is not good. She has been very grotty all day (even though she was chirpy this morning as I wouldn't have taken her into the nursery) They have said she has sat on people's laps cuddlng most of the day and has had a temp. I have told them off a bit as explained that since we had the four days in hospital back in August we need to keep a good eye on her and if she is that bad then they should have rung me. I know though that they are so good there and she will have had snuggles and been kept an eye on but feel a tad guilty I wasn't doing it :)
Her temp just now is now 38.4 but has had Nurofen and Calpol so hopefully will come down.

Sit in the bathroom for with the bath or shower running and the door shut to create a steamy atmosphere. My sister did this with her son when he had croup and it helped a lot.
