Hi, I posted to the health site, but no replies  as yet, I was wondering if anyone who has had their dog allergy tested in the past, and who have food allergies, if you have tried to introduce foods that were in the IgG list, I know that you can not give any foods that are listed in the IgE . No one mentioned to me at the time of getting the tests done, that foods listed in the IgG section can be introduced, back in after eliminating them from the diet for a peroid of six months, I had my two dogs allergy tested and most of the foods were listed in the IgG section only two or three in the IgE section. I was bored one night and did a search, on IgG foods and came accross info that said they could be introduced back in after a peroid of time.
I telephone yorktest who did the test, and they confirmed this, don't know why it was not mentioned at the time, as it would make life a lot easier. They say to introduce one item at a time see how things go.
Just wondered if anyone has tried this, thanks for any help eleanor.

Hi Eleanor

If your dog has a food sensitivity it could only become a 'sensitivity' if given in large amounts, or in conjunction with other foods.  Foods can build up in the system and have a 'cumulative' effect. Therefore, given a 'rest' of six months to get the food out of the system, you can then reintroduce gradually to establish if your dog is okay on small amounts of this particular food.

We have a young bitch who suffers with bouts of collitis and thought it is likely to be a food allergy and so would like her tested, the vet however has said it is very difficult even with blood tests to diagnose food allergies (contact allergies are so much easier) would like to here what this company has to say...

Hi Sharon, it was thome, from the list who advised me back in june to have the tests done, I had similar problems with my vet, I had to insist on having them done, I wished I had known about this tests  2yrs ago when, my problems started, because my dogs allergies would not be so severe as they are today, if I had known then what they were allergic to, if left untreated and they are fed the foods they are allergic to, there systems just get worse and go onto to be allergic to even more things, as in my case.
My youngest dog was treated for 2yrs, vet was sure it was environmental allergies, earlier in the year he was put on atopica,(which is for environmental allergies) when it came on the market, it worked for him, I was having my Beardie tested, for food, evironmental, dustmites, and asked the vet to test my youngest also (Iwas insurred) she thought it was a waste of time, as the atopica was working so it must be environmental, anyway, pushed got the test done on him also, and the vet was shocked at the outcome, because he was only allergic to two trees, and loads of different foods, I have listed them on the health site.
I have done many many food trials, and never got to the bottom of it, never would have, because he was allergic to beef,  and I was giving him fish oil capsules (silly ass that I am didn't know capsules were made from beef) he had never had beef as a meat only as in a knuckle bone, quite a few people on the site have used york test, and had success, including thome. (I have not quite got to the bottom of my dogs problems). They are being discussed on the health site at the moment.

Just out of interest i have spoken to yorktest and they will not give me a cost for the test - as it varies from vet to vet (i guess some vets add on more then others) what sort of cost should a blood test be for food allergy?

Hi,  if my memory is correct, I think it was £70 I had all three tests done on Molly but you get a discount for that;;;;  My vet sent for the info, then worked out a price for me before I decided to go ahead, I know I was under the £150 for the three test. (insurrance paid). regards eleanor
