while talking to my friend the other day about gettin my bully pup he told me that his friend had a pitbull although ive not seen the dog myself from what he says it sounds like one and when i told him that if you are found with a pitbull in england the dog will be taken off you but he says only if you dont have a licence is this true?  I know that most people cross staffys and ebt and say they are pitbulls so people will buy them but if it actually is a pitbull what will happen if the dog is seen and how do you get them in england?

The Dangerous Dogs Act was enacted in 1990, and the breeding and importaion of Pitbulls, Japanese tosa's and fila Brasiliero's was banned, and any dog of the 'Pit bull Type'

Those dopgs that were in UK at the time were required to be Registered, Microchipped, Tattooed, Nutered and Insured, and be kept muzzled and on a lead in public.

This means there should be no Pitbulls alive in the UK less than 14 years of age.

There are those who have importyed these dogs ileagally, or as you say are breeding and selling cossbreeds to look 'of the type' to gullible folk who seem to feel the need to own an ilegal dog.  So yes the dog could be seized and destroyed as many have been over the years.

I can't answer your queston in terms of how you get them in the country because I dont know.....and to be honest I didnt even know you couldnt have them??!?!?!

A lady I know has an American pit ball which I have seen with my own eyes and it is a lovely dog...its good with the kids, and has a wonderful character....

It could be a cross but she didnt mention it???

There is no licence allowing anyone to keep a pitbull. They are either crossbreeds or illegally held genuine ones. Either way, they can be seized and destroyed.

A dog only needs to look like a Pit Bull Terrier for it to be seized and destroyed. The wording is as I understand it, "Pit Bull Terrier type".
