I was just wondering..........
I feed my little lab at 9.00am in the morning and then again at 7.00pm in the evening. I feed her at 7.00pm to give time for the food to pass through so that by around 10.00pm she is ready to go to the toilet and then bed. She sleeps through to 8.00am but I figured today that she is waiting 14 hours till morning to eat again which seems like a rather long time.
I wondered therefore If I were to feed her later in the evening for example at 9.00pm (this way there are 12 hours between each meal) would her food still have a chance to digest so I can take her out at 10.00pm or would she wake in the middle of the night needing to go.
What do you all reckon? What time is do your dogs have their last meals????
Thanks
Van
ps i posted this in the feeding section also - sorry!!!

HI, couldn't find the post in the feeding section so will answer here.
My pups first few months meal times were 8am, 12pm, 4pm and 8pm. Now its down to two per day (she's 9 months) 8 am and 4.30 pm . She goes out last thing around 10.30 pm and even tho hubby gets up at 5.30 am she doesnt want to go out till I get up then has breakfast first. (roughly 16 hours between meals) I suppose it might depend on the breed or size but this suits her (and me). Maybe labs are different I don't know but I'm sure someone will let you know soon. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Hi Goat, by your other posts I am assuming this is a lab aged 6 months. If so then I cant see a problem with the times she is being fed. I she seems comfortable with this there is no reason to change it. I keep my labs on 3 meals until they are 8 months, but that is personal choice. My older labs are fed at 8am and then 7pm so again there is around 13hours between meals. Under 8 months they are fed 8am, 2pm and 7pm. It what suits my dogs and it fits in with my shedules.

my lab is 6 months and he is fed at 8am and 6pm it suits him and he seems quite happy well as happy as a lab is when he isnt being fed constantly
We feed ours at 11.30/12 after their morning walk then again at 6/7 in the evening, 2 meals seems to suit them better. How long is it meant to take for food to pass through them?

Hi my 8 month old Lab is on 2 meals , 8.30,AM 5.PM.She was on three meals at 6 months same times as before but 1 meal around 10.PM, maybe cornflakes or wheatabix with ewes milk or goats.
Sheila.
My labs are fed at 8am and 8pm, but the they don't go down to bed until after midnight. But Like Kayc my labs at 6 months would still be on 3 meals a day and that extra meal would be around lunch time. I stop 3 meals at about 8/9 months.

i like the idea of a biscuit before bed time that is a good idea. I just sometimes wake in the night feeling hungry and did wonder if dogs wake and feel the same. I am glad to see that the feeding times are ok though. All this has made me quite hungry so I am off for dinner now :-)
Mine are fed at 8 in the morning and 7 at night, give or take quarter of an hour. I find that if they are fed any later at night they tend to leave little parcels for me :D Well, not so little really ;).
I found that they all decided themselves when they didn't need 3 meals a day, usually about 9 months. Though Chloe will now eat all day if given the chance. :)

Yep. Mine are very take it or leave it! I leave the sacks of dog food open on the floor in the kitchen 24 x 7. They don't steal either :D
