some more help / advice needed......please.... my parents have an 8 year old spaniel called Chloe who just doesnt want anything to do with my puppy.  We have tried introducing them on a couple of occasions... kept puppy in closed crate 1st etc.. and then let him out, however once out Chloe just doesnt want him around, she won't even look at him, walks away when he approaches and then if he gets too close she barked and snapped at him, so we had to put her in the kitchen....my puppy didn't seem to worried about this at all though.  Anyone got any suggestions about how we can get Chloe to accept my puppy?....  my parents live about 80miles away so I'm unable to visit a great deal... so ideas such as taking puppy around for a few minutes each night wont work.
On a different note, chloe does appear to have changed her behaviour somewhat over the last 6 months or so, it has become more apparent since my parents lost their other spaniel which was with chloe all the time.  Chloe has now started to bark at people and dogs, she always wasnt so fussed about dogs but never used to really bark aggressively and pull on the lead when she sees people.  Any ideas?  Many thanks.  :)

I'd leave the introductions until your puppy is older, then introduce off territory, not in Chloe's house.  Chloe tried to do the right thing by walking off.    It is not fair to shut her in the kitchen, she will be sitting there associating the new puppy in HER house with confinement and abandonement.    It will make her hate the puppy even more.

Chloe needs time & space to get used to your puppy There is no magic way of getting her to accept any dog, some dogs are more social than others

Our GSD would never accept an adult dogs larger than a cavalier because she was not socialized as a puppy(she is a rescue)however puppies or small dogs she adores & is very maternal towards them.I have no problem introducing her to puppies

Just make sure she has room to get away from the puppy & as long as she doesn't physically hurt your puppy(highly unlikely as she is growling to warn off & even young puppies understand)let her act normally

As to the barking at people & dogs in the street it is very difficult to know what to advise without knowing exactly what happens

first thing you should do is when chloe snaps at your puppy do not put her away she is showing that she is the dominant one not the pup you need to reward her try taking both dogs for a walk and introduce them there no they are not on chloes territory then take the puppy to her home she should accept it then
