Can anyone come up with a more original name for a chocolate mini smooth dachsie girl?

I haven't even found my pup yet, but while searching have been compelled to write lists of names.

I know I'm mad, but please help with my mission to better my hubby's choice of 'Meg'. It's an okay name but a bit boring and not at all 'chocolatey'!

Thanks, Jenny.

Hi
'Coco' is good but have already thought of that one. Have seen some wonderful names on various breeder's sites, so someone out there must have real talent at finding apt names.

Thanks anyway!

Jenny.

I know someone who named their chocolate labrador " Hershey " after the American chocolate! Bit bizarre but not very common so it would definately stand out. Dont know whether it would suit a dachsund though!!
- By jayne.sbt [gb] Date 19.11.04 22:39 UTC
how about smartie......i better not think about this too much as i can already feel the need for chocolate after just reading this post lol...bloody diets....you could always have the name calories lol good luck...let us know what name you choose....jayne.xx

Me too, I've definitely got a craving for chocolate right now!

These are all good suggestions, but of course I've listed the contents of sweet shop shelves already.

I was trying to think of some more exotic or perhaps really expensive connoisseur chocolates.

Ooo, my tummy's rumbling!!! But keep those lists coming. The more appetising the better!

Cheers for now, Jenny.

Ok im a great believer in names meaning something - even if its a distant something.

Ive had a little look on the internet and have come up with 'Maya' Not only is it a beautiful name in iteslf but there is reasoning behind it as found on several webistes:

"The origins of chocolate are rooted in the New World prehistory of the Olmec and the Maya"

"The Maya, believing no other tree worth naming, simply called the cacao tree, cachuaquchtl or "tree". Believing that the tree belonged to the gods and that the pods were an offering from the gods, if not gods' food itself, the Maya quickly incorporated the pod into everyday symbolism and mythology"

Both quotes from: http://groups.msn.com/FoodiesCorner/chocolateorigins.msnw

Its worth thinking about looking into the history of chololate or other names for it rather than going for some more obvious ones.

Hope that helps.

Buttons. :)
- By Alexanders [gb] Date 19.11.04 23:57 UTC
I think Buttons is great - until you shorten it :)

I also like Minstrel and Smartie.

How about Tootsie (American Chocolate flavour chew).

I like 'Maya' that's one to consider. I'm very interested in the meaning of names also. I also agree that a name shouldn't be too obvious. One that makes you stop and think whilst still being subtle enough not to be naff!

I've looked at words that could describe chocolate in other languages, for example: 'Hedy', meaning "delightful, sweet" in German, or 'Dee' meaning "dark" in Welsh!
Got any more of these please post them.

Thanks, Jenny.

i might be getting a new pup too in the new year,a husky and my names for it are zephy or zobia but i know if all goes to plan and i am fortunate to get a pup, when it comes home after two days its name will come to hand and any names i planned will go out the window.
- By porkie [gb] Date 20.11.04 08:30 UTC
I know it's not chocolate related, but you have brought back an old memory,we once used to walk a dog called Minty for a friend, when we were out with her and our previous dog Pepper,we got some strange looks when we called them back together "come pepper, minty!"
Jacqueline :)

Our friends have a chocolate coloured labrador, and her name is "Thornton".
She is so gorgeous you could just eat her up.
- By Lorelei [gb] Date 20.11.04 11:24 UTC
Terry - chocolate subtle and also commemorates a great British firm.
- By pipsmum [gb] Date 20.11.04 11:57 UTC
Some great ideas here, thanks!

Just wondering if perhaps someone could try and connect the chocolatey name to 'Pip'? She's my little black and tan dachsie who was named after her mum and was almost as small as one when I got her!!

Thanks, Jenny.
- By ClaireH [gb] Date 20.11.04 12:47 UTC

Continental chocolates made by Thorntons.....out of this world :)
- By pipsmum [gb] Date 20.11.04 23:23 UTC
That's a bit of a mouthful!!! But, I like 'Truffle' or 'Praline', which Thorntons do well.

Jenny.
- By sharonb [gb] Date 21.11.04 06:08 UTC
Thornton sounds good.
When I was young we had a lab/g.shep called shep. But me and my sis nicknamed him minstrel as he he really big brown eyes that reminded us of minstrels.
- By jumbuck [gb] Date 21.11.04 08:50 UTC
How about Flyte? :-)
- By Lorelei [gb] Date 21.11.04 10:09 UTC
Chocolate + Pip+small dog = Pipkin :) ( Pip and KInder)
- By pipsmum [gb] Date 21.11.04 10:23 UTC
I like Lorelei's sum of << chocolate + Pip + small dog = Pipkin ( Pip and Kinder) >> as I hadn't seen the connection before!!

What about 'Mocha' or 'Mocca'? I like it , but Hubby says "it's too cheesey!" He's wrong isn't he?

'Maya' is still a strong contender.

Jenny.
- By michelled [gb] Date 22.11.04 14:24 UTC
eveyone will think youve named her after that lunatic from corrie!!!!
- By pipsmum [gb] Date 22.11.04 14:40 UTC
Sorry, but I don't watch 'Corrie' so everytime I call 'Maya' I would be thinking of chocolate not some lunatic off a soap!!! No offence though as perhaps other people might think the same as you when they hear that name being called. Oh dear!

But, should I really worry what other people think? I'm sure there are plenty more outrageous or bizzare names being called at the park!!

Jenny.
- By michelled [gb] Date 22.11.04 15:00 UTC
once we had a horse called "woof", it was fun calling him in the field!!!!!

ok then quick survey,

Maya =??????

Mad corrie woman!!!!!!
- By Kkirgirl [gb] Date 23.11.04 11:11 UTC
I dont watch corrie either so it wouldnt have occoured to me, and besides its your dogs name, 15 years down the line when that corrie actor is selling stuff on a home shopping channel you will still be shouting after her when she is playing in the field :)
- By Charanda [de] Date 22.11.04 15:02 UTC
I used to have a mouse called Thornton!!  It was named after the chocolate as she was a chocolate colour but also because I went to Thornton College (my school) so it seemed quite apt!!  :-)
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 22.11.04 16:15 UTC
MMmmmm I sort of fell into that trap with my youngest as I dont watch TV how was I to know there is a girl called Fizz on Corrie :(

what about fudge        it took a long time for me to come up with that one, will be back in an hr with one more!  my dogs have very boring unoriginal names and it can take a whole day to think of kc names they are a nightmare for me.
- By woodsford [in] Date 21.11.04 19:22 UTC
MY westie is called Maya, it really suits her , lovely name.
- By Herbiedax [gb] Date 22.11.04 14:39 UTC
We have a chocolate mini long haired dachshund called Chanel after Coco Chanel
- By pipsmum [gb] Date 22.11.04 14:51 UTC
'Chanel' I like that!

How lovely to have a chocolate long haired dachsie!

I'm finding it very difficult to find a chocolate mini smooth dachsie and have been told they're very few and far between.

Could I be cheeky and ask for any contacts that you may now of that breed them?

Going to a show in Surrey in January so hope to have some luck there finding a breeder with chocolates.
- By Anndee [gb] Date 22.11.04 18:00 UTC
