We're delighted that all our puppy owners from our Maggie's litter last year have kept in touch. Tomorrow for the first time one is coming back to visit her mum & brother. We're really looking forward to the visit, but what's the best way to handle it from the dogs' point of view, so that they all get on well together? They haven't met each other since she left us nearly a year ago - so will they think it's a strange dog invading their territory, or will they have any memory of her? I remember when I took my Cavalier puppies back to their breeder's home many years ago that they didn't seem to know they'd ever been there before. Come to think of it she won't recognise the house 'cos we've moved...lol. Hints and advice, please!

In my experience there will be some vague memory that they have met eachother before.  There will be a 'familiarity' even if they don't realise it.

I've got a dog aggressive dog of 4 year's old and when she met her father a couple of months back, who she had not seen since 7 weeks old, she did not fight with him.   She does not fight any dog that she met when she was a puppy [before she got aggressive] even with a long time lapse between meetings.

I have seen other similar experiences although we will never know for sure.

One puppy came to visit me through the summer. He was 2 years old by then. We met out in the street and walked all the dogs (on leads) back into the garden before letting them off. Travis hid behind his mum and dad for a few minutes until he realised he could play with his brother Chance. Mum Chloe went and hid under the bed

2 more of Chance's brothers visit regularly, unfortunately ;) They wreck the house and garden whilst doing the ring of death :D Actually, they play quite happily, so long as Chloe can hide from them. She just doesn't "do" her puppies anymore :D

Interesting.    Maybe she does have a recollection of them but does not like their bolshy behaviour now :o

All went well and the three dogs had a wonderful time together. The lawn has now become a total quagmire...It was absolutely great to see Mollie so happily settled and adored by her mum, dad & aunt (human!). Now I just need to hoover up the mud - again. :) :) :) :D :D :D

I'm glad your visit went well. It can go either way, but usually both parties enjoy it.

Chloe just doesn't like her very boisterous sons. I don't blame her ;) They are definately 'in your face' dogs. She lived with one for several months, when they both lived with my daughter. When she decided on a life change Chloe came 'home' and Moss went to live with his brother. Both are happy now, so long as they don't meet too often. Moss then decides to 'love mum to bits' :D He misses his mummy aaawwwwwwwwww. She doesn't miss him :D :D :D

Hi Carene,
The dog who is coming to vist you, does it live very far away?  I ask this because it sometimes helps if he/she can first have something with your dogs smells on, an old blanket or toy of some sort.  Likewise something with the visiting dogs smells on for your dogs to sniff on before the arrival could help.
But in all honesty, I don't think you will have to much trouble.  I take my 'Gas-Bucket' back each year, to see his mum and sister and they are all over him.

I bet you can't wait to see one of your fledglings again.    :D

Best of Luck.
