Ok so this is the point I can't understand,
There has been a huge amount of money wasted to ban Hunting with dogs, but absolutely nothing to protect the animals that were hunted.
So now instead of being hunted for a few hours, and killed in seconds, they are to be shot and left with festering wounds to die over a matter of days, sometimes weeks in agony, or fed poison to once again die in agony hours later, oh and don't forget poison is indiscriminate and will kill anything that eat it, including anything that eats the dead animal, and our dogs.
Please don't try and say this won't happen because it already does !!!

Its what I don't understand either Ingrid.

Which makes me think that it is a class war and not a welfare issue!

Basically i think "only time will tell" ,then we can watch TB eat his words as he has on many other things.

is there no data from the F&M time on foxes & the problems that came from no hunting?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 20.11.04 13:35 UTC
Even the ex-leader of the LACS said the bill has nothing whatsoever to do with animal welfare! It's purely misguided class hatred - misguided because the 'class' that will suffer most is the poorer class.

Sharp shooters need to be employed to cull the foxes, the same thing happens here in australia with the ferral kangaroo's,the shooter must be a licenced culler,it is illegal for jo blog to shoot a roo!
- By michelled [gb] Date 20.11.04 14:29 UTC
do kangaroos kill sheep & chickens for fun too?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 20.11.04 14:41 UTC
I gather they eat the grazing that's needed for farm livestock.
- By Carla Date 20.11.04 14:41 UTC
really? I was talking to someone on another board from Oz and they use dogs to catch and kill foxes - infact, he was telling me about how he came across foxcubs playing and he had no qualms in setting the dogs on them because in his opinion it was the quickest method of despatch? will try and find the post in a sec.

My mum just told me that the LACS were on TV this morning saying they are going after fishing next - anyone else hear it?
- By SaraW Date 20.11.04 14:44 UTC
front page of "the Sun" today (not mine just a copy that was in the canteen !!) is about PETA and fishing

Ah, the Labour Party won't stand for that! That's the 'honest working man's sport involving live creatures, not la-di-da toffs'.
- By luvly [gb] Date 20.11.04 15:29 UTC
I doubt in oz they have the same sick sport either ;) mabe a few sick people . The threads gone off topic yet again . so i shall carry on there is no difference in dog fighting and foxhunting  apart from the law but from feb it will be more or less the same . if you consider fox hunting ok do you agree with dog fighting and why not ? Kill humainly dont watch an animal that cant defend itself with packs of dogs ripping at its flesh . I used to live in the country and its not such a big problem as you all ramble on about .

LL, have you ever read anything by Jim Barrington? He used to head the LACS. He was sacked when, after several years of research, hunt attendance, discussion with vets etc etc he concluded that the kill by hounds was less inhumane, and more certain, than the other methods of control! The blinkered membership, who refused to countenance anything other than their personal opinion, couldn't allow an open mind ...

heres a suggestion - try to write a post without using over emotive and exaggerated language - then someone might actually take you seriously.

We appear to be going round in circles with this - the Hunting with Dogs Bill is now on the statute books -  next year will see some feverish activity amongst the pro hunters who will try and inconvenience the government but unless they are very careful will simply result in irritation and increased antipathy amongst the general public,(and maybe a backlash in a reduction of the many handouts that farmers and other landowners get if they persist in non compliance) The current appeals on the grounds of invalidity of the Parliament act will of course fail ( otherwise the laws that have been pushed through already using this would be negated).

I guarantee that in a couple of years time fox hunting/hare coursing and deer hunting will be viewed as the strange anachronism they have become - and that organised 'shoots' will also be a fair way to being banned.

Sounds to me Trevor as if you are a fully paid up member of LACS.

As that is their next step banning Shooting!!!!!
- By Carla Date 20.11.04 17:17 UTC
sounds more to me like Trevor has inside information....i wonder if he works for them.
