I have a 4 year old Flatcoat who has been diognosed with seizers (if that is the correct spelling). It started just over a year ago. He collapses and cannot get up again, he is aware of you and surroundings. It doesnt last long and he seems fine afterwards. He has had about 4 seizers in total. There was a gap of 2 months between his last one and the one before. The vet checked his blood sugar level which was low after the seizers but it always went up. Diabetes has been ruled out. After his last seizer he was refered to another vet and she was almost 100% sure it was seizers. She said that he could have an MRI scan however he would be kept and monitored for a week, and even after this it may not show what is causing the seizers. She said that when they find out what is causing it it will probably be too late. If they get too frequent then there is medication that he can be put on, however it would dope him up, and they said that he would change in himself. So we decided that if it came to that we probably would have him pts. What I wanted to know was has anyone experienced this with their dog ? How long after diognosis did their dog last before the seizers became worse ? and if they did become worse what was the outcome i.e medication ? I have had a chat with the vet, but it is always helpful to have a view from others that have been through it with their own dogs.

If he is still aware of you and his surrounding, maybe it is not necessarily epilepsy it could possibly be Canine Epileptoid Cramping Syndrome.

If you do a search you may be able to find more about this.

One site, which is specifically aimed at Border Terriers, who suffer from this is :
