we have had various dogs ranging from jrt to gsd's but am now thinking about getting an sbt. as with all dogs we have had we have done a lot of research to see if we meet all the breeds requirements and also to see if they meet our requirements. when looking on the internet at rescue centres all the sbt adverts say experianced owners only, even for dogs who it states is well behaved, ok with other animals, people, especially children. i realise that some of these dogs have had a tough life and the rescue centres are trying to do the best for them, but unless your first experiance of an sbt is with a puppy how are you able to gain experience especialy as we prefer to give a home to an abandend dog rather than a puppy. or am i being realy stupid

No you're not being stupid at all :)
of course everyone has been an inexperienced owner at some time in their lives
Bullys are strong dogs and "some" do have issues with other dogs which not everyone realises. The rescue centres have to err on the side of caution so that the dog isnt returned or rehomed. Have you visited any sbt rescue centres and maybe help out. That way you would gain experience and decide if this really is the breed for you.
Where do you live by the waY ?

If you wabt a rescue then keep trying.I have found staffies no more hard work than any other breed I've had dealings with. As long as you are made aware of any 'habits' the dog has I'm sure you'll be fine. When you speak to the rescue centres make sure you tell them you are experienced with dogs...just not staffs.
