I took buffy to our monthly ringcraft comp, looking very scruffy, she hasnt had her coat sorted out yet, so shes got bits sticking up all over the place, but the judge must have liked her because he gave her a 4th place rosette, i was really pleased because there must have been about thirty dogs taking part, not bad going as i have only had her about three months now, and have been letting her coat grow and trying to get some weight onto her, but its all coming along nicely, and i am learning more about cockers, we are both learning together.

Hi Diane
How old is Buffy :D
I'm just hand stripping out Douglas' puppy coat (he is a six month old Cocker Spaniel) and my doesn't it make such a difference. The hair on top of his head was so long you could part it. He now looks more like a little Cocker than some overgrown yettie :D
If you have any questions just fire away as there are lots of Cocker people on this site and we are always happy to help out anybody :)
Best wishes
Derryn and the not so fluffy Douglas :D

Luckily, i e-mailed the breeder today as i was panicking about her coat because it looked such a mess, and he is kindly going to do her for me, so i am going up there saturday so she will look all smart for her first open show on sunday at maidstone, but if i need anymore questions answered, i will be throwing them your way and anyone else who has cockers, i have already had leighs help with whistle training her, which was very much appreciated, so watch this space, i just learn as i go along, i have to say the gsds coats are so much easier to look after:D buffy is 15 months old, and the previouse owners had already had her trimmed a few times before she was a year old, so i had to let the coat grow first before i could really do anything with it, but it grows very quickly, that is another thing i will have to learn to do, which fluffy bits to leave on and which fluffy bits to take off ahh nightmare, but i will get there eventually.

That's really good that your breeder is going to help you out, you will find that a vast majority of them will.
My breeder would love to help me get Douglas ready for our first Show but she is in St Helens and I'm in Guernsey :)
There is a Cocker Spaniel Breeder in Scotland who has a great site which shows you which bits to take off and which bits to leave in here is the address
http://www.turmalin.freeserve.co.uk.
Let us know how you get on.
Best wishes

She is no longer scruffy anymore, as she has had her hair cut now and looks lovely, just hope the judge thinks so to, keep you posted with what happens.

Well i have been to the show, and she was placed 5th out of 6, i am not really worried that she didnt come anywhere, as she still has some weight to put on and her coat needs to grow, i just wanted her to get used to being shown, she will hopefully do better next time.
