Hi, i have a 5 month old female dalmation puppy who has got a quite a bad limp on both her front paw/leg and back leg only on the right hand side. It is espically bad after she has rested or had some sleep. Im not sure what couldve have caused this limp as her routine hadnt changed and she hasnt had any falls and nothing stuck in her paws etc . I took her to the vets who told me to rest her for 1 wk & gave me anti inflamm tablets, after a week she was still just the same so i took her back and they done an x-ray which has shown nothing ( that was this morning ),. Iv been advised to rest her for 1 month and they will xray her again to see if any changes. Does anyone have any advice or experience of this with their dal or dog ? She has had this limp for approx 4 weeks now.
Also does anyone have some friendly advice on how do you get a dog to get along with a cat? Iv had my burmese cat for nearly ten years which i dont think she will last much longer if my dalmation doesnt stop chasing it to bite it its tail or anything it can bite onto! Its like wacky races in my house when my dal see's the cat as i have to take chase after the dog too.

If the vet has told you to rest your puppy, then he means properly rest it. If you can't cage her, then limit her exercise to WALKING around the house and take her out to the garden on the lead. Chasing a cat around is not resting.
Tedious, I know, but if you don't do it she won't get better.

Hi Saffy
Poor you, and what a worry. It could just be growing pains known as panostetis, which shows itself as shifting/intermittent lameness in pups and young dogs. Google search for more info.
At least the Xray shows nothing more sinister eg. HD or ED..
Has the medication given to you done any good?? I would always be inclined to try a homeopathic remedy, such as Rhux tox and Rhuta ( probably spelt wrong..sorry) I have the number for Homeopet. It could be worth trying. PM me if you would like the number and I will look it up. ~In the meantime i hope things improve.
I have no experience with cats though...someone will be along to help soon, I am sure..
