Can anyone tell me how to go about getting a bitch DNA tested for colour carrying genes.

  It's quite easy to find weblinks regarding DNA testing but most are breed specific, which breed are you talking about?

Also try VetGen in america (just put VetGen in search engine for website).  Had both my Flatcoat boys tested and they were great.  Not cheap, about £75 each, but very quick and helpful.  Website full of very useful info.
