I have been reading your posts and you are obviously very well up in the legal circles I cant give to much detail as my case still sits with the RCVS but I fear doom and gloom being the outcome.
My Six year old very healthy Staff was taken to be spayed she had been on operated on before by the same vet so you can imagine how devistated we were as she was not a well lady when we went to collect her she should not of been discharged to us in the state she was she in hence to say she died later that night the following day we took her to Leeds for an autopsy which revealed a peracute pnuemonia we know how this was caused and as far as we are concerned he killed our little girl. BUT the biggest shock of all is obviously once thrown in this awful dilema you discover vets are not monitered at all they can set up practice and thats it they are not visited like on the grounds like 'health and safety' and they dont have to meet a standard as such to keep there licence and we pay huge amounts thinking our much loved pet will be well looked after but if it all goes belly up who do we appeal to, closed ranks so theres a thing all the money the KC take and I have had my own affix for 15 years how can everybody ignore all the articles written in DW or is it a case until it happens to you maybe.

Hello Guest

I am very sorry to hear about your bitch and it certainly sounds very odd that a straight forward spay went so badly wrong ( I am assuming that your bitch was in perfect health before she went in ?) - If you have already put your complaints before the RCVS then there is little more that you can do for now - they will be investigating and will report back to you if they think there is a case to answer . What was your vets explanation about what happened ?. Ask for a full breakdown of the procedures that took place during her operation. I'm sorry but as far as I am aware there is little more that you can do until the RCVS have finished their investigation - I wish you luck in what must be heartbreaking circumstances :(

Guest there is one thing you can do if you think you can substantiate your claims of wrong doing. You can raise a civil action.

You would need to do a great deal work to try and make a case but it may be worth while.

Good luck on your outcome whatever you decide.
