I have a great dane puppy who just cannot hold it in! He has a cage but if I leave him in it overnight he does it anyway and if I leave the door open he does it all over the kitchen. He holds it in or 'asks' to go outside when I am at home but it seems that when I go out he always makes a mess. I wouldnt mind if it was just a little but its as if he has saved it up for when I am not around! I never had this problem with my other dog who is now one year old Please has anyone got any advice.

Danes can get very anxious when left alone. How long are you leaving him for when he does this? It sounds like anxiety to me.
Overnight - could he br crying/have cried int he past to go out and you have not heard him?

How old is he? Has he been tested for any urinary infection? How often do you take him outside (not just let him out) when you are home with him?
How old is the pup? With the best will in the world it is not nescessarily physically possible for him to hold it in all night. When you leave do you make sure he is empty before you go and how long do you leave him for?
