Hello all. I have a question regarding the prices of beagles pups. I plan to buy a beagle this year, i'm after a purebreed classic tri-colour show bred dog. I want to know why do beagles seem so expensive? I havnt contacted a lot of breeders yet, but the few i have contacted and quoted me £650-£800. I can understand that the particular breeders in question are breeding thier dogs to match the show beagle standard as closely as they can for competing shows, but they still seem an expensive breed. Ive looked at the KC website, and the Beagle isnt even in the UK top 20 breed list, and thats for the past 3-4 years!

So is £800 normal for a beagle pup? are they a really popular breed in thow show world? Oh and im looking for it just to be a house pet/companion.

Thank you.

They are very competitive and popular as a breed in the4 Hound Group at shows, probably along with whippets the most strong.

I would contact th4e breed clubs for an idea of the going rate for a well bred pet puppy.

As you say the price seems a little high.  I would have expected something close to my own breeds price, about £500, bearing in mind they have good size litters and are generally good mothers/easy whelpers.

The price of a breed usually has little to do with their popularity, in fact the less popular, but5 fadhionable are the highest proced, with the majority of average non complex breeding wise bnreeds ranging in the £400 to £600 price range for well bred stock, reflecting the breeders rearing costs and dpgs upkeep.

Hi there, beagles are very hard to find, most breeders only breed to keep a puppy for themselves and very few on a "commercial" basis some breeders wont breed for a couple of years if they dont require to have a new puppy themselves,so i guess its what you call "supply and demand!"
if there aren't many about people are happy to pay more. When i breed a litter i always go to the breed club and ask what the going rate is,and yes, at the moment it is around £800....i have been looking for a new blood line to bring in and have been quoted between £750 up to £1200 !!!! for a bitch puppy.
incedentally i ALWAYS have a huge waiting list,i generally breed one litter every 18 months or so and am waiting for a bitch to come into season at the moment with people champing at the bit for her puppies!
dont really know if that actually answered the original; question but just my opinion of the beagle saga as i see it !
regards
Pauline
