l have a chinese crested hairless and she is forever chewing and licking her feet, and thigh she is fed on pedigree chum meat and pedigree chum complete,is she allergic to something in this food?? does cat food have less protein in it?could the dog food be too strong for her?? any help would be great...

Cat food has higher protien than dogs so don't feed cat food. Try changing the food to one that has no grain try a chicken or lamb & rice. It could be carpet cleaner, air spray, grass pollen or flower pollen, I had a dog that was affected by daffodil pollen. How old is the dog could it be his joints that are causing pain. JH

Hi Signer,
Not only her behavior could be signalling an allergy... she could be doing it because she started it when stressed & found it comforting. If she had just been licking her paw occasionally, you might not have noticed. Now it's become a habit. You might check with a vet to rule out/in allergies though.
good luck

If she's also got watery eye it *may* be an environmental thing that's triggering it, rather than her food. Like hayfever in us (infact the oil seed rape is in full flower at the moment and that sets a lot of people off :-( )

Dogs sometimes chew at their paws if their anal glands need emptying!

You might find the following site of interest, See Inhalant Allergies,Food Allergies and Itch relief for info.

Having a westie with inhalant allergies unfortunately I know only to well about the chewing paws bit. I hope your dog is insured as the allergy tests alone are about £300.
