is it true that when you want to show a sight dog that the head has to be up right while walking and the ears pricked?
but if you want to show a scent dog that the head has to be down while walking ive been told that this is what the judges look for while showing gundogs

Never heard that before! All the dogs I've ever seen shown have had their heads up. Certainly sniffing the ground is always discouraged.

No gundog is shown sniffing the ground as watching Crufts on TV will show. A judge would not be able to see frontal movement of dog moving with it's nose on the ground and its movement seen from the side would look terrible!

I am sure we have missed some placings because Tia is a sniffer, It is hard work keeping her (straight and true).

Tell me about it.  I battle with my beagle.   I don't want to string her up too much but then on the other hand I want to get her nose off the floor.  It seems worse in the indoor shows where smells seem to stick around.

However some breeds are showen with their head held high (pointer or setter) but something like a border collie has their head down, level with the body.

I know thats one difference between BC moving and ASD moving, the BC has their head down so level but an ASD will hold their head up while moving.

I'm not sure how you are refering though Kerrie, sight and sent are two sub groups in hounds, sight and sent do not work in gundogs?  you have your setters and pointers, retrivers, spainels and HPR's?  What exactly do you mean?

Personally when I judge variety I look for a dog that looks like it moves well and can do the job its supposed to!  If I know what that is of course!
