Hi all

I wonder can anyone tell me if there is anywhere else apart from the AHT that does PRA testing. My Gordon is going to be hipscored next week and we want to get PRA testing done as well, the thing is I have spoken to a friend who has recently had it done on one of her lot and she has told me that the price has gone up from £18 which I paid for my Iirsh girl last time to £51 plus VAT, in total I am sure she said it was about £60. I will pay this amount if I have to but would rather look for other alternatives.

PRA testing is carried out at any KC/BVA/ISDS eye testing sessions. The fee varies but on sessions organised by individuals such as the sessions I am co-organiser of it would normally be in the region of £16 to £18. Breed clubs often hold sessions at their open show and their fees are often around the same as ours. Some veterinary surgeries hold sessions but at these you also have to cover the surgery overheads which can be quite high.

I see you are in Scotland and if you care to post your rough location I will be able to tell you where your nearest permanent sessions are held.

Wow Ali! You are about as bad as it gets! there are three surgeries which do testing

All of these seem miles away from you! The other option would be to use a DNA test although I am not completely sold on that at the moment.

It's looking like I'm going to have to get my vet to do a bloodtest and send it off, as it would probably cost more to travel to these places as it would to get the AHT to do the test lol.
