Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / JWB protein levels

Can anyone tell me the protein levels in James Wellbeloved turkey and rice? I am still debating whether or not to change from Burns to JWB. I have no specific problems with Burns, although both dogs seem extremely difficult to put weight on and are constantly hungry, but it is hard to tell how much of that is the food or just them! One big factor, (yes i know it shouldn't be, but thats life!) is the cost and JWB is much cheaper whilst still being a quality food according to many of your opinions. I feed burns as a lot of protein makes my BC completely hyper and aggressive so i need a food with a low but digestible protein.

the site will tell you the protein percentages of the various formulae according to recipe and "life stage".

To compare with Burns (or any other brand) you need to know the moisture content of each (as obviously there is no protein content in water) to calculate the "real" protein content.

After that you need to compare the source/quality of the material to understand if they are comparable and equally bio-available to your dog.

As Tohme says the % in itself is of little value without knowing the detail behind it.

In the past I have fed one food [A]  which had 23% protein, and another [B] that had 20% protein labelled. (Both had same moisture content). The feeding rate of the 23% protein food was much smaller than the 20% protein food. Both foods were marketed as  'maintenance'. The grammes of crude protein fed in food [A] was less then food [B].

Without knowing how much of each food you will need to feed to achieve the weight you wish to maintain, then use  feeding guides as an initial comparison. On Burns I have had to feed well above the recommeded rates.
