Can anyone suggest where I can now feed the winter birds. I have alway hung my feeders from the window of my livingroom, but this year I cant. My youngest daughter has moved to Edinburgh and I have adopted her cat as it is used to the country and would be stressed at moving to a flat in the city. I do not have a cat flap so she uses the window, old fashioned sash with internal secondary glazing. The sash window stays open a few inches and I just open the glazing for her to get in and out and leave both open at night. I loved the birds coming to the window and could sit for ages watching them. I went to put hooks up today and realised I couldnt. Suggestions please. I cant put a cat flap in as the doors are solid panel old fashioned.

I secure mine to the line post as high up as I can so that the cats can't reach......I also have brackets (for hanging baskets) and I hook feeders on them.

Our bird feeders are hung on the shed,on a birdtable,in the middle of my obelisk which is ideal as the smaller birds can fly in and out of the roses and berberis but not the larger birds ;) and I bought a shepherds type ?crook and pushed it into the ground near the window and hung fatballs from it.
We get the occasional cats who sit on the shed roof watching the birds  but so far that's all they do!
My parents have bird feeders attached by 'suckers' to their window panes,it makes a mess on the windows but the birds have become very brave and as my Dad has poor sight he loves watching them feed up close, but maybe this would be teasing your cat?

I have to hang mine from the tree branches as the fox steals the peanut/seed feeders :( The squirrels do get to them sometimes - but at least it doesn't cost me a fortune buying new feeders every month or so :D Unfortunately I can't see the sheds from the house, so it's no point hanging anything on them :(

We get through around 9/10 tons of corn during the winter. Added to that 7 tons of pelleted feed which is all eated between late July and September. It makes heavy lifting believe me!
