Hi, I'm doing a project at college and have picked the title ' Investigate the requirements of a dog training/puppy socialisation class/establishment'. I know it's a bit broad at the mo but have just changed my mind from doing a wildlife related on but we don't have anywhere I can visit around here, anyway I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience of running/starting up a 'training enterprise' and if you could help me..possibly...please! i was thinking along the lines of venue(size,availablity, disabled access, parking etc), marketing(atttracting new clients, advertising, is it needed?ie is there a similiar class near by &how successful is it?)insurance, equipment, trainers, registration(KC, APDT?) that's all I can think of at the mo, hope someone can either help or point me in the right direction !:)

hey with my family we run a ringcraft club.  if you want PM or e-mail any questions and I will answer them.  However each club is different, some need advertising others dont.  ours has been running now for about 13 years and the only advertising is word of mouth and our local vet recormends us (because one of the nurses comes to our club!)  Another one tried setting up in our area, and failed, they advertised in the local paper, every week, posters in pet shops, vets etc and few months later shut down because of lack of intrest.

Hall is important, size needs to be large enough, unfortantly not easy to find due to places not liking dogs in the hall and already being used for other things!

I will note we are not "training enterprise" but I could always pretend we are for you! :D

I have been training my own dogs for 30 years to competitive obedience, working trials and latterly to KC good citizen.  I have been  running group classes and private 1:1 for a couple of years now.
