Does anyone know of a show being held within a 2 hour drive of the North East, Newcastle area??
Not that I would try and show ay of mine but I would like to have a look at the Italian Greyhounds.
In the 'future' when I am without my 'big dogs' I would like an IG. I'm not being callous in any way but my vet has advised me that my Mastiff may not live more than another 2 years and I don't want to wait until then to decide what puppy I would like to join our family.
I rushed in when I bought Ragga and she has suffered due to breeding faults ever since.
I want to take my time and find a breeder that I trust and like. Also that they get to know me.
I've always liked greyhounds but I've told myself that I am 'not' having another big dog when the kids leave home.
Any puppy that joins our family is a member of the family and would not be bred from. although if I were to be lucky enough to have a show prospect I could be tempted again. to show not breed.

Champshow wise Border Union 18th June 2005  and Darlington 16th Sept are the 2 closest champshows but they are a while off. It may be best to contact the breed club and see when they have their open and champshows. even to speak to the secretary for some guidance.

Lots of open shows in the area in the run up to Christmas - and we usually have an IG contingent turning out.  Jsut say if you want the show details posted.

Trevor,

Yes I know but I've had so many problems with Ragga and Vinnie. Both health and temperament.
Ragga is always ill and Vinnie's temperament changed dramatically when he turned 2 yrs old in April.
I know they are both essentially rescue's but I've had 'big' breeds all my life and never had these problems before.
Besides when the kids go I can consider a breed of dog I've always wanted without the fear that it will be hurt by them.
The other 'small' breeds I've always liked are the Chihauhau and the Min Daxie.
Another thing. I live in a little village and I'm pee'd off at everyone being terrified of my dogs. Whether it's Ragga, Vinnie or one of the JRT's.

Gwen,

I would appreciate the details. As I say it's going to be quite some time before I'm ready for an IG, or other 'toy' breed, but I want to see all the breeds I like and choose/ be chosen by a reputable breeder and get to know them first. I rushed in when I bought Ragga and, although I wouldn't part with her, I've regretted it ever since.
Oh!! One more thing. It kills me when I lose my dogs at an early age and this is more often with the bigger breeds.
No doubt the JRT's will be immortal but at least they will accept a 'toy' breed into the house. I wouldn't dare bring a 'toy' in with the big'uns. They wouldn't hurt it on purpose just by accident.

Thanks for the list.
I'll be able to get to a few of those.
I have a ferret show in the 21st so probably not that one but some of the others.
As I say I'm particularly interested in the IG's but I'm also interested in a couple of other toy breeds.
I need to speak to some owners/breeders to make sure the IG would be 'appropriate' to our home environment.
We have looked a Pugs in the past but at the time a Pug might have been a bit too much for us.

If you make it to any come over and say hello = I think I am meant ot be going to most of the above!  Depends onn Stacey, however, who is now 6 week pregnant (I hope)  I will either be by the Pug ring or Am. Cockers.

As I said before we looked at Pugs a couple of years ago but I couldn't afford £800-£900 at the time.
My daughter is unable to have kids and got broody so she decided she wanted a 'little' dog.
In the end she chose a JRT. When we went to look there was an all white one and as I can't resist all white dogs we ended up with two.
We ended up paying nearly £400 punds for them anyway we may as well have saved up a bit and got a Pug. I like the faces of Mastiff's, Pugs and Boxers.
Anne-Marie is taking Sqweg, her JRT, with her shortly when she moves out so in a few years we will only have one JRT. I can't possibly only have one dog in the house so this is why we are looking for a breeder now. I want top get to know the person I am going to buy from and let them get to know me. I've been 'bitten' too many times when I've bought pups. I'm going to be very careful with this one.
As I say it's going to be at least 2-3 years before we are ready to have another pup. I want to make sure I decide on the right breed/puppy and breeder in plenty of time.
I am definitely coming to the Birtley show, I used to live in Birtley as a kid, now I live in Stanhope. I am at a ferret show the day before in Wetherby so it's going to be an enjoyable weekend for me. Animals all weekend.
Hope to see you there then.
