Lovely Labrador Puppy bought from Dog R Us  1.11.04  signed in to  our labrador rescue  lunchtime 2.11.04 :( (
together with all receipts  (£475) and chipping document  new bed toys etc..the only one maybe to have been in rescue before ink dried on his chipping documents. reason for homing  unwanted present !!

To be fair  the lady did realise she had made a mistake and  and was upfront about it and would only trust him with us so thats a good thing.thank heavens for  cards in Vets breed rescue directory etc..

I have to say that I admire the lady for bringing him to you. Everyone makes mistakes in life, and not everyone knows about dogs as we do. It takes courage to admit a mistake, and not many people would be prepared to forfeit that amount of money by getting him to rescue instead of selling him on. I expect she has actually done this dog a huge favour :)

Quite a record I think. At least she had the good sense to see you out.

At least he is safe and sound now and will be forever. Better to be in rescue than the streets :(

theres a man lives near me who goes through the free ads and takes any puppies that are free to a good home, he gets quite a few unwanted pups some purebreds, people buy them and then realise they ahve made a mistake, then they just want rid ASAP, he sells them on and makes a big profit, I mean if you get a pedigree puppy for free and sell it, its 100% profit isnt it.
And its legal too, there is no law against doing it so he has a nice little earner going on and in a way, I suppose hes helping the unwanted dog population too, as hes kind of "recycling" the unwanted ones and finding new homes for them.

Its not very good for the puppies though, and if these people were encouraged to return the dogs/puppies to breeders there may be a few less breeding for money. This man is, of course declaring his trading profit to the Inland Revenue?

no I wouldnt imagine so, and why should he? It doesnt qualify as income really does it?
do YOU declare YOUR every penny to the tax man?
And WHy is it bad for the pups? they are unwanted, so he takes them in, worms them, looks after them and then new people come along and buy them, sounds to me like hes doing the same as what you do, except he is doing it the sensible way and making some money from it. (just the same as the pups original breeders would have done) so tell me wheres the crime in that then? :-)

Yes, of course it is income - he makes a profit in the same way as if he sold food, sweets or clothes. Yes, I declare my income to the Inland Revenue. It is not good for the puppies because they are being used as profit making objects, being passed from one home to another, and I would imagine this man would be overjoyed if the same dog came back to him over and over again so he can re-sell it. You intimated that he is doing this for financial gain. He is a puppy trader. And you dont have a clue what I do!

While no one can call this man a puppy farmer, he would be described as a dealer. He should pay income tax, on money made this way.

Some dealers trade puppies with other dealers often overseas, so they are not popular with breeders. Two dealers spring to mind that I have heard of, one buys up such pups and kittens and sells then to the European Fur trade, the other exports the puppies to other dealers, and nobody ever really knows what happens to these puppies.

If this person is doing home checks and taking back puppies which buyers decide they don't want any more regardless of the dogs age then he is doing a good job. I assume he would take back a 6 year old dog if sold as a 10 week old pup? The breeders here would, and yes they might rehome the dog, but at least when the dog needed help they are there for them.

Trouble is that most of these pups come from puppy outlets like dogs r us and the one in blackpool they are supplied by puppy farmers and so cannot be returned to breeder.people go in and buy them on the plastic so its in their mind not paying out hard cash.

Its amazing how people ring us and their dog has to go they dont want to wait  they cant get rid quick enough even oldies its very sad.
The pup actually wasnt fazed by any of it he had a good time here and will be loved to bits but isnt it a sad situation?

I didn't even know Dogs R Us existed.  I suppose that is just very naive of me though.
He's a lucky boy though having a lovely new home with responsible owners lined up for him by you though! :)  But like you say, so sad that something like that could happen in the first place.

I have to say your not alone I also didn't know that there were places such as Dogs R Us, its mad!!  Good luck to the lad so glad to hear he'll be going on to a loving family very soon.  Recently I heard of and know of two lots of family's who have obtained dogs and only after a a short time say between a month or two or three have just given up their dogs - too much hard work for them am afraid I tend to upset these people by saying something along the lines of "you'll be giving up your children soon then" "too much had work for unconditional love then! and oh great another dog with baggage to deal with" OH says I'm really sarcastic!!!) Yep I'm afraid I am maybe a word from me and then next time they consider another dog, they might think twice!!! Mind you I agree we all make mistakes, its just soooooooo sad.

What a lucky boy he is.  I wish him all the happiness and love in the world from his new owner.
