Lindsay and others i took Alfie to vets last night and straight away major problem is the food i am feeding him on, i was advised by a big pet store and previous vet i was under to fed him on Nutro Large puppy dry food, which infact is really bad for bully's because it's very high in protein to build muscular and makes them aggressive, he is a medium size dog not large and is having so much protein which produces extreme high testosterone also i have been giving him boiled chicken and eggs to break the dry food up, it's a perfect diet for a body builder but not a bully it's recipe for disaster i have in  fact been overloading the pup with protein which maybe part of the problem why he has so much energy and shows aggressive he has to go on James Beloved Veg diet dry food which has no animal fats and must not give him any milk eggs or meat especially chicken, they took blood from him and i get the results thur for thyroid the vet does not think thyroid because he's so young maybe his liver, the vet said he's such a healthy looking dog and has a excellent coat/skin. Like you said Lindsay the vet wants to rule out medical first before going behaviourist and changing his diet asap.
Tks for all you help and will let you know how i get on with diet and blood results there may be light at the end of the tunnel and i don't have to rehome him.

It's excellent that you are seeing some sort of progress and that your vet is listening to you, I am sure things will improve greatly, and that you will be able to keep him :)

Often with these things its a process of elimination and that's what's happening now.

I also have a bully but of the 10 month old GSD sort. Where have you got the James Wellbeloved Veg diet from? I have tried a search for it but only come up with meat and veg sorts. I am prepared to try anything. My darling gave me a fright this afternoon. She is only usually agressive with other dogs but jumped up and barked at a 4yr old child. I'm scared to walk her now. I'm hoping this was just exitement as we had only just left the house but this behaviour is not acceptable. She has always been fine with people and kids before but I have recently changed from feeding complete food to raw meat and bones. Maybe she is getting too much protien too.

Hi Gaby my vet never had any in stock but has ordered me a bag which will be delivered to the surgery tomorrow along with fax results for thyroid, he said that this was the food rec and given and had far best results, i have a massive Jolly's near to where we are moving Cheshunt - Hertfordshire and going the weekend to get a big bag of it, i have never given any of my dogs raw meat and was also told not to give bones to bully as they are really bad for then, i can only go on what have been told but i really think a lot of my problem was the diet because he's 6 months old now and from day one i fed him on nutro large dry puppy food and he his only a medium dog, also i gave 3 eggs per week and boiled chicken every day which is fine for a body builder, the vet said the protein produces a high abt of testosterone, and these dogs already being a pedigree have lot of testosterone and i have tripled the amount going round in his body. Hope this may be of some help to you. I also let him have raw carrots and a raw potato which he loves just got to keep eye on the protein.

Lorna Jane said it was vegetarian JWB. That is why I was querying. I could only find ones that contained meat. Maybe veg only available from vets?

Gaby this was some info i found out on the food:-

So, what is James Wellbeloved?
James Wellbeloved is a complete dog food that currently comes in four flavours:
Lamb and Rice
(ingredients - Grass-fed lamb, lamb gravy, brown rice, barley, seaweed and linseed, alfalfa and yucca)
Turkey and Rice
(ingredients - Turkey, turkey gravy, brown and pearl rice, seaweed and linseed, alfalfa and oats)
Duck and Rice
(ingredients - Duck, duck gravy, organic oats, seaweed & linseed and alfalfa)
and
Fish and Rice
(ingredients - Ocean white fish, brown & pearl rice, seaweed & linseed, alfalfa and olive oil)

All flavours have added vitamin and minerals and contain no beef, wheat or dairy products; the most common causes of allergies. There are no artificial flavours, preservatives or colours and there is no added BHT, BHA or ethoxyquin.
The food is available in Puppy / Performance; Junior / Performance; Adult Maintenance and Senior / Light, and comes in varying bag sizes (2kg, 7.5kg and 15kg).

James Wellbeloved also make a hypo-allergenic dog treat called CrackerJacks. This comes in three varieties at the moment (duck, lamb and turkey) and has been great for Nanook who cannot tolerate ANYTHING else - even one small doggy chocolate will give her the runs!
The only thing that I don't like about James Wellbeloved is that the different flavours come in different sized pieces and some of the flavours have quite small pieces that are far too small for Nanook. For this reason, I tend to stick mainly to the Duck and Rice flavour, which has the largest pieces.
It is also more expensive than other dry dog foods (a 15kg bag is around £35) but I don't mind paying the extra money for something that works.

James Wellbeloved do not only do dog food, they also do cat food (in the same flavours as the dog food) as well as a complete Ferret food, which I also use occasionally.

If you want to find out more about this product, there is a web-site that you can visit for more information, and to order a free sample:

I feed JWB to my 2, but didn't realise the different flavours were different sizes. My 3 year old has always been on Lamb and Rice (I'm guessing that's one of the smaller ones) and my 3 month old is on Turkey (purely because I couldn't find Lamb in puppy sized to begin with). The puppy/performance is a smaller kibble obviously, but i'm guessing will be bigger in the adult variety. This may be a silly question, but how do you know if the kibble is too small? The 3 year old doesn't seem to have any problem eating the Lamb sized kibble, so should I just leave it as it is? He doesn't wolf his food down, but don't know if he actually chews it. I think it takes so long for him to eat it because his lips are so big! (he's a Shar Pei)
