Do a search on CD - just put in canine herpes & you'll get quite a bit of info

There was an article about it and the various injections for it in dog world last week. I don't have it here so I can't check.
I do hope her puppies are OK. I assume they are Flatcoats.

Is it definitely herpes? Have pathology tests confirmed it? I only ask because my dog sired a litter and the pups started dying. The vet did a post mortem on one and said it looked like herpes, but he had to send samples off for confirmation. It came back that the puppies had toxoplasmosis, which had likely come from either cat poo or raw pork (which the family had apparently given the bitch quite regularly). The remaining pups (and the owners) were put onto specific and very strong antibiotics and no more pups were lost. Apparently it is quite rare for this to occur in dogs (it is why pregnant women are warned about cat litter).

Canine herpes is dreadful, although not confirmed, my bitch lost a whole litter last summer to what we thought was CHV. There is a vaccination which can be given up to 10 days post mating and 2 weeks before whelping. Unfortunately it is too late for this now, but definitely something to think about if she intends breeding from her again. If it is The CHV then the bitch will carry the virus for the rest of her life, it lies dormant until her titre levels rise ie. pregnancy.
Good luck, I really hope they find out what is wrong and can help the remaining pups

No not flatcoats my friend Stan has a litter of spaniels, which is a first litter so it is very devastating, for both Stan and the bitch. Of 6 puppies born there are today only 3 left and one of those is very poorly.

Oh poor little things. However, I wonder if something is going around as I had heard of another litter with the same problem

The vaccine is called Eurican Herpes 205......type it in your search engine, there is a fair bit about it on the net.
Another sign of CHV were the pups low birth weight??

The birth weight was not noticeably low. I was wondering if Accylovair could be used as most people use it in a cream form for cold sores and I had a virus which affected my mouth and throat about 3 years ago which was horrilby painful, I was given Zovirax capsules to take.
Hi Polly i remember a post on here a while back about CHV, it was regarding blood transfusions I know at the time it made very interesting reading,HI IVE FOUND IT
If you are faced with this situation and need any further information, you are most welcome to contact us on (0034) 696727234. Please note that this phone number is in europe.
Likewise if you are faced with this situation and your puppies do receive a Plasma Transfusion please let me know the outcome. As the vet said there are no guarantees, but if the pups are dying anyway what is there to loose?
Since writing the above article Swanbridge Vets have carried out this treatment on another of our puppies and also a litter of German Shepherds and Neapolitan Mastiffs all with the same success so hopefully it will soon become more known and save many more Good luck
