Did you pull the tick out yourself?  If so you should get the dog to the vets to ensure the tick's legs haven't been left in the dog which can happen if you don't remove them carefully.  As long as the entire tick has been removed there shouldn't be a problem.

If there are lots of tick a spot on treatment from the vets is best either frontline or stronghold i think both are ok for pups over 8 weeks

Hi
I was told by a vet that if you put a blob of vasiline over the tick and it will then free its self toget air!

Frontline given every month will prevent ticks for attaching for long periods of time. THey may still attach, but will fall off quite quickly. Stronghold unfortunately doesn't do ticks.

Think you might have got this the wrong way round... it is Stronghold that does ticks, NOT Frontline.
Stronghold also does Fox mange,... wonderfull stuff.

This is from some Veterinary suppliers sites
Frontline Spray, 250 ml
Frontline is Fast-acting & Effective:
*Kills 98-100% of adult fleas within 24 hours of application, before they lay eggs and 95% within 2 hours.
*For the treatment and prevention of flea infestations on cats and kittens. Aids in the control of ticks, flea infestations and flea allergy dermatitis on dogs and puppies.
*Acts on contact, fleas do not have to bite to be killed.
*Kills ticks within 48 hours, minimizing the risk of disease transmission.
*Clinically proven to eliminate chewing lice and aid in the control of sarcoptic mange.
*When you use Frontline the active ingredient Fipronil is distributed in the natural oils of your cat's and dog's coat, fleas die on contact, before they can lay eggs.
*Frontline breaks the flea life cycle and removes the threat of constant re-infestation by continuously killing newly emerged adult fleas which infest the treated pet (refer to treatment recommendations).
*Frontline Spray controls lice infestations within 48 hours.
*Aids in the control of sarcoptic mange in dogs.
*Can be used on kittens and puppies from 8 weeks of age.
*Can be used on breeding, pregnant, and lactating bitches and queens.
Long-lasting:
*Provides up to 6 weeks protection for cats and up to 1 month protection for dogs.
*Control is also long-lasting, since the fipronil remains in the natural oils lying just beneath the coat of your dog or cat.
*Its waterproof. Remains effective if the cat or dog gets wet or is shampooed. Your dog can even swim without losing protection against fleas and ticks for a month.

Breaks the flea life cycle:
*Kills adult fleas before they lay eggs.
*Kills re-infesting fleas within 24 hours.

Easy to Use:
*Ensure complete coverage to skin level. Spray all over the body, against the lay of the hair, until the coat is dampened. Massage the coat all over to make sure the spray gets right down to the skin.
*For nervous cats and treatment of the head area, spray onto a gloved hand and rub into the coat.
*Approximately 1 to 2 pumps per pound of the animal's body weight will be required.

Remember when they're out and about, town and country cats are vulnerable to attack from fleas, ticks and lice unless they're protected with Frontline which:
*Is non-systemic (kills parasites on contact).
*Is extremely easy to apply.
*Gives maximum protection if applied monthly, all year round.
*Is the most trusted flea, tick and lice protection worldwide with 500 million treatments prescribed so far.
*Use to supplement flea tick treatment on extra large dogs.
*Great for kennels and groomers!

STRONGHOLD can be used in puppies and kittens from 6 weeks old, and is strongly recommended for puppies and kittens. Stronghold is waterproof in one hour, rather than the 48hrs needed for Frontline, if your dog enjoys a swim (or bath!).

Frontline is effective against ticks. Stronghold is licensed abroad for certain ticks, but not yet in the UK for European ticks

I use natural products myself

It says on the Frontline bottle that it is a treatment against fleas and ticks ... ;)

Ticks are best removed with one of those funny forked devices.  You just hook it under the tick, rotate it around, and then tick pops out intact.  Pulling it as mentioned b4 can leave bits in the dog that could get infected.
