I have agreed to help on the ACD stand at DD, was quite excited till I found out I will be helping, now I'm a bit nervous! Obi is my first Cattle Dog, so I certainly don't know it all yet, but I would really like to represent the breed the best I can, any hints or advice???

Hi Hayley - I've been to DD a few times, if I can offer any advice it would be....Don't be a miserable s*d, who has no time or courage to speak to anyone, like most volunteers I have ever met on breed stands at DD's :D :D :D I'm sure you'll be fine, good luck
Sarah :)
And take plenty to drink as you'll need to keep your voice going.
I came out nearly hoarse after doing my stint on the Boxer stand in the afternoon
2 years ago :D

Wear comfy clothes (especially shoes), take plenty of water to drink, and smile! It's very tiring, and you'll meet one or two complete ninnies, and have to repeat yourself over and over and over and over and over ... but it's good fun too!
:)

Don't forget the lip salve & throat sweets
Sarah, I will do my best to be friendly and welcoming, I just need to have a chat with Obi about doing the same, Cattle Dogs can be very aloof! :) Maybe other CD'ers could approach anonymously to check I am doing a good job!
I've done DD at Crufts with my flatcoats. It is very rewarding, but remember, you are there to inform people about your breed, worts and all! Be honest. I always tell people the best thing about Flatcoats ( their love for people) and the worst thing about them ( they steal, they lick alot and are very demanding!!) I tend to take a peice of vetbed and a toy or chew for my lot. It will get very hot too, so plenty to drink for your dog and yourself.
But most importantly....enjoy it & have fun! It's a great day.

Don't worry if you don't know it all, hardly anyone does. Just give people honest things about an ACD and maybe try and get as much info as you can. Have a great day. What day you on? I may be on the next stand (Aussie shepherds) with my bitch depending on if they want help on the day and what time the grooming comp is...
It will be the Sunday afternoon, not sure what time I will be starting....

Oh thats a shame, I'm on saturday....
