Does anyone have a good remedy for stained feet??  White feet are stained red and look terrible :(  I'm told its from licking them but never catch the little devil at it!!  GRRRRR

I don't know if anyone else has tried this, but this has been written on another (beagle) forum for someone whose beagle has stained feet.
"The best thing that I found that stopped her and her feet got better was Exmarid skin lotion, its for dry scaly and itchy skin. It smells pretty revoluting, but it does dry and it did the trick for my bitch.!!

Your only other option is to get whitening compound and mix with a small hydrogen peroxide (20% vol, which you will get from a chemist) and the whitening compound you will find at the stalls at most major champ shows.
This will remove the stains"

Hope this may help.

Have you been to the vets to see WHY the licking is occurring ? Treating the red feet will not solve the underlying issues

Lel,

There is nothing actually wrong with the feet, seen the vet already.  Only the fur on the feet is red.  The point is - I never see any licking.  There is red staining of the fur around the lips too, but not as dark.

I had it with licking just one foot.  She still does it occasionally but always the same one.  If it is not inflamed and the skin is not broken then I found bitter apple sprayed on before bed (which is when she did it) stopped it.  I think it just became a habit in the end, some suck their beds, mine sucked her foot.

Just thought Id mention it  Dill -

Mine does just the one foot, or occasionally the opposing one if I spray anything on the prefered one.  Only seems to do it if bored or out of sorts (such as in season), it is most annoying when she hasn't done it for months and find on arrival at a show that she has spent the journey gobbing over her foot making it disgustingly wet and orange!

Hibiscrub is quite good. It is an antibacterial wash you can get at most chemists for a few pounds.

I would not advice bleaching.

AHHH thanks for that anyway Lel :D

Bitter Apple Spray :D :D :D :D :D  Don't think I'll bother with that, my dogs see it as a condiment   its never stopped them chewing anything if they really want to :p  yeuch  - can't understand it, dogs are supposed to have such a good sense of taste and smell

Haven't tried the Hibiscrub before so I'll definately give that a try ;)  Nothing to lose anyway :)

Thanks for all your replies - I'll let you know how I get on.

We use net curtain whitener, diluted in water, it worked great on our bitch's feet, who also does the same thing!!!

You could try using a bar of Vanish soap. I've used it in the past and it works pretty well.
