- By Gonzo [gb] Date 22.10.04 01:43 UTC
I think they're lovely little things. Different from the norm which is always good :)

Looks like something gelse got to the bitch in her season other than a GSD :D  Mixed litters are not unknown.

Ive never seen one like that before, I must say. I think they're cute though, what ever their breeding. She said on the website that the bitch had been DNA tested and was AKC registered. I didnt think that you could register a dog that wasnt the colour of the pedigree standard. Maybe im wrong there though.

The AKC like the KC will register any dog from registered parents, just because the DNA tests show that the dog & bitch are the parents doesn't mean somewhere in the past another breed or X breed was involved. There is no DNA test that proves a dog has only the genes of the breed it appears to be, so the fact that these dogs have been DNA tested only proves that the parents are the parents not that they are both 100 % GSD.(I have checked this with a dog genetizt)

The dog genetics expert I know has told me if they had managed to find the genes that decides what breed the dog is made up of they would 50 % of the way to irradicating wuite a few of the breed related diseases & condition. She is researching MD in GSDs & would love to have such a test as by having common genes in the breeds that can develop MD she would know whether or not it was genetic or not. There is no such information at this time, so all these DNA tests prove is that the dogs & bitches that produce these mismarks are the dogs involved & no other dog was invloved in the breeding of the mismarks, the test doesn't prove that they dogs are 100% GSD, after all the GSD is actually the result of breeding several shepherding breeds found in Germany together to get a dog that could do the job of shepherding cattle & sheep & act as a flock guardian without 24/7 human assistance

I don't like them I'm afraid. They look like cross breeds (have got NOTHING against cross breeds) :)
But I like my standard Shepherd. Some people like the white or black ones but I am old fashioned when it comes to my breed and like the black and tan. :)

I think the black and white GSDs are beautiful, they are very charming. But guess what they remind me of? Piebald Siberian huskies, or any other black and white spotted dogs. I think if the new colors are added to the breed standard for GSDs, great. But I think for now these gorgeous dogs should be left the same. Some people, especially children, might not be able to recognize the GSD as easily as now if shown a picture of a black and white dog. Go on the streets on town, hold of three different pictures of breeds of dogs, one being a GSD, and ask any child to point out which is the GSD. Most of them, if not all, would point to that gorgeous black and tan police dog. =)

But, I still think the black and whites are very charming. Same breed of dog, just a different color.

& very very expensive don't forget there was a time when "whites"were rare & if you wnated one it would cost you £1000 These "pandas"start at $4000 & upwards so in the UK I can see the puppy farmers doing a bit of crossing of breeds to start a new fad & of course make a fortune on the way

I think they are lovely. And its good to see variety and divergence within a breed :-)

mmmm not sure on this myself i like and i dont like lol, but i think that a lot of people associate the dark faces of the G.S.D'S as being scary looking i know a few people who comment on my Kira's face being scary becasue of the black/tan colouring on her face, these new colours may help dispell the fear  reactions from people because of the softness it brings to their appearance :-)
