Hi guest, what kind of information would you like about dog breeders. It might be a good idea if you registered with the board so that you could participate in a discussion.

Some dog breeders are reputable, i.e. they follow their breed club code of practise, having all their breeding stock tested for the relevant health issues (and pass) in the particular breed. The reputable ones would never consider breeding from dogs or bitches that were not close to the breed standard. To prove that sort of thing, a dog/bitch needs to be shown and be a winner, or alternatively a breed expert should be asked to give an oppinion.

Disreputable breeders don't care about the health of the puppies that they produce, or the welfare of the mothers. There are some that are only interested in how much money can be made. How sad is that.

Reputable people have years of knowledge and experience of their breed and a true love and interest.

Too many people rush into breeding dogs without the neccessary apprenticship.

Is this what you wanted to know about dog breeders? ;)

If, as would seem from your post, you are "considering" breeding your bitch, may I suggest that first of all, you look at breed standards and terminology?  Firstly, you will see that, according to the standard, you don't have a golden labrador - but a yellow lab :D!

If you feel confident that the person who sold you a golden lab is knowledgeable enough, go back and talk to the breeder - but you might be better to join the breed society nearest to where you live, and get an evaluation of your bitch before you embark upon the expensive tests (hip and elbow scoring, which involve x-rays taken under sedation/general anaesthetic- and eye tests for starters).     Why not go to a few shows or field trials, see how your girl measures up to these dogs?    Buy the Book of the Bitch - it will tell you about the pitfalls as well as the pleasures of mating/pregnancy/whelping and rearing of puppies.     Use the SEARCH facility on the board here (click on search, top righthand corner) type in breeding my bitch, and you'll see what advice is given.

It's not as easy as it seems at first........

Regards
Margot

What information are you looking for Guest? Your post is a bit to vague to know which direction to point you. If you are looking for a puppy then where abouts in the country (or world) are you?

Regards, John
