hi my girl is on day 11 of her season but neither her or my dog are interested  will he become interested on the right day or should he have been interested from the beginning thanks

A dog that knows what he is doing will not be overinterested until the bitch is ready.  On the other hand he may be so inexperienced that he doesn't really get it at all, but that is less likely.

If it were my breed day 11 would be too early for most bitches, as day 14/15 seems to be most usual, with many bitches being later than that, though early bitches seem rarer.  Talking to many breeders of different breeds bitches do seem ready later than they were years ago, whether this is because we tend to check for the first sign of colour before the season even starts, and therefore don't miss the first day.  I would think that a bitch living the life of a pet indoors will be spotted in season sooner than one in a kennel.

My girls are days 13 and 15....................back in the summer one of them didn't ovulate until day 20, so there is still plenty of time yet!

If it is his first time, he will either be keen from day one and the bitch will have told him off so many times that he now daren't have a go, or until the scent from her is overwhelming and her behaviour outrageous he won't get any urges at all.  It does sometimes help if you separate the dog and bitch for a couple of days before trying the mating, as sometimes if they are too familiar and they can develop a brother/sister mentality, and when they meet again the first thing they will do is sniff each other all over, which will draw the dog's attention to her season.  If fact, it is advisable to do this anyway, in case they try to mate when you are not around to supervise.
