Keatah was mated on Sunday and after a 30min tie the breeder said there was no need to fetch her back for another mating. Thing is shes still losing and is still showing all the behavuoral signs-unsettled, mounting our other bitch. Is this normal. She as only been mated once before with the same breeder. Very experienced beed doing it for years. That was 2 years ago and she did still lose for a few days after that. It is now 15 days since the start of her season.

you might be, but i think i would have done another mating a couple of days later to be sure , theres still time to do one isnt there, as for her still being randy all bitches differ some go through the motions as normal but this could indicate that she would accept another go.  was the last mating 2 yrs ago succesful did u get pups.

Just because a bitch has been mated doesn't mean that the season stops.  Bitches often go on losing colour for the normal length of the season, whether they are pregnant or not.

If she stood for the dog on Sunday and was keen to be mated, then it will probably be fine.  It is too late now (Thursday) to have another mating anyway.  Keep your fingers crossed that she's pregnant.  If I have to travel a long way to a stud dog, I only go once and (fingers well crossed!) I have never had a bitch miss following one mating.  When people use my dogs, I always offer them 2 matings, but again if they have to travel sometimes there is only 1 mating.  The number of puppies seems unrelated to the number of matings.  In fact the largest litter sired so far by one of my dogs (13) was the result of one 10-minute tie.

Both my girls only had 1 mating, and both confirmed in whelp, although am worried one may have reabsorbed :-( But i was also worried about only the one mating to the point i had convinced myself she wasn't in whelp, i got such a shock when the scanner said 8! Nearly fell over lol. Can't deny it any longer she's like a beached whale :-)
