atfer reading alot of posts on rawhide bones and raw bones, everyone says they r unsafe and ur dog can choke.  I feed my dog these all the time, and alot of the time she starts chokin a  bit.  What else is available for them to chew that isnt a danger as im not sure, and where do u get em from.

Hi, have you tried sterile bones? Maddie never tires of gnawing away on hers. Or a kong, they're nice and strong and you can stuff them with food :)

Missie,

Sterile bones are cooked bones.  If your dog is not a strong chewer they may be fine, however, if they are ingested they are much more likely to cause problems than raw bones.   They are dry, splinter more easily and are much harder to digest.

Jenny have you tried a marrow bone/knuckle bone ? Mine love them.  :)
Although not everywhere sell them now and you will need to keep your eye on her while she has one

Hi Stacey
She's a leonberger so does that mean I should not give her these then? She has had it a long time and has just started to actually 'eat' away at it. What about the marrow bones, will they be alright? Thanks for letting me know I will take it off her for now then. :)

IMHO the only safe bones for dogs of any breed or size are raw bones which are designed for recreational use.  IE marrow bones, knuckle bones or shin bones.

They must be given only under supervision and removed when all the cartilage and marrow has been stripped.  Beware, marrow has a laxative effect! :D

The sterilised or roasted bones found in pet shops have been cooked, and in the latter case coated in grease, and are therefore unsuitable for dogs.

Morrisons sell bones on the meat counter
and as most safeways are now changing to Morrisons they should be easier to get.
