I am very interested in owning a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, but there are none in UK. Does anyone know if it's possible to do the following? To bring a GSMD bitch already in pup over to the UK so she can have her puppies here (and obviously raise them for the optimum period). The pups could be homed just as those from a dog resident in the UK, without the need for the blood tests and rabies shots etc. necessary to import a dog which means you can't get one in under at least nine months old. I am intending that the dogs' welfare would be paramount obviously, so does anyone think it would be pheasible - is it even legal?!
If this scheme would be possible, would anyone else be interested in sharing the cost to end up with a gorgeous GSMD?

It's most certainly legal, and is by no means unknown for bitches to come into quarantine kennels, have their pups over here then go back to their home country when the pups are weaned. With the pet passport scheme it should be even easier because the bitch could go into a home rather than into kennels - obviously a better environment for the puppies, though maybe more stressful for the bitch. I did meet a couple of GSMD's a couple of years ago whilst in a garden centre but have no idea whose they were as their owner appeared to have been on holiday when I tried to track her down later.
