my staffordshire bull terrier has a funny habit of licking up budgie that lands on the floor from our two budgies also the occasional nit of poo or feather, will they harn her. i try to clean up after them daily, i think our SBT thinks shes missing something when i feed the budgies and this is why she does this.

Many years ago, my friends dog sneacked and ate a full box of budgie food. She became very ill and died, the vet said it is poisionas in large amounts, so i would be aware of this.

I used to have Cockatiels, and my dog used to do the same. As soon as you hoover up after birds though, you turn around as there is more seed on the floor, lol

He was always fine with it though. There was never really alot of seed down though tbh.

I had to get rid of the birds though :( I had 3 of them (One that used to dance for me, and come and give you kisses, and loved his neck being rubbed, strange bird he was :)) then they bred, I then had 7 of them. When letting them out one day, with the young ones once they could fly. I used to let them out whilst i'd take the dog out. One day it was raining and just got in, when to put the kettle on, came back in the front room, and one of the babies had a wet paw print mark on its back . Well, that was it, at every oppertunity he would try to eat the birds. So I shipped them off to a avery in a park, where all the kids go to look at them. :D

We've recently had this problem with a dog at work.  All we found with him (labrador) was that he pooed much more frequently.  As soon as the owner stopped him hoovering up after the birds, he went back to 2 poos a day. :D  I'm pretty sure it can't be good for them though

Just be aware that some seeds can harbour funguses and other problems that can make dogs quite ill.............
