Hi everyone,I am curious to know what type of bedding people who's dogs sleep outside in a run or kennel use.Mine sleep in their run at night but now the weather is turning their bedding is very cold and almost damp in a morning.(they have a kennel and a roof on the run)Any suggestions?

In the past ive worked for a Kennels and they used the high sided plastic beds to keep draft away and put 'vet bed' inside for them to sleep on, a heat lamp over head to warm the kennel and keep the damp out and the dogs were fine.

If its really cold a blanket or some towels will allow them to ruff it up and snuggle right in. For older, smaller or those with less fat on we used to put a coat on them at night to help keep them warm.

Im sure you have heard of vet bed but if not its available in lots of pet retail stores.

Hope that helps.

Ours are in their kennel/run during the day, they have various blankets that I get from the charity shops, as they like to rip them up.  They also have a heat pad for winter time.  At night though they are inside with us.

I bought a proper dog bed for inside but just couldn't keep it clean and fresh, so I bought a couple of cheap single quilts from Asda and some cheap covers and change them once a week.  Nice fresh bedding now !!

Thanks, I will leave the duvets as they are huskies and the last time i put a duvet in i thought it had been snowing(silly me for thinking that they would appreciate a nice soft duvet)I am using old bed blankets but might try a heat lamp too

Hmmmm   Didn't I see a programme about huskies??  The Iditarod race - they were sleeping in the snow    I doubt they'd need a heat lamp - maybe a chiller tho?? :D :D :D ;)

I use pieces of vet-bed, however, I think for working breeds the benefit is more for the owner than the dog.

Many dogs sleep very happily on bare boards, my own springer uses her piece of vet-bed as a toy to throw around the kennel, and seems to prefer to sleep on the floor of the kennel than the plastic dog bed.

My own dogs have never had any heating in the kennels (which are not insulated) and they have never suffered any ill-effects.
