At the weekend we received a new arrival. She is a 6 year old Cavalier and was in a terrible state. We don't know too much about her background but believe she was kept in a small back room and sometimes a puppy pen. I really need some help with house training. I take her out into the garden with our other dog but she just stands and looks at me.  We can be out there for ages and as soon as we come back in she will go to toilet on the carpet. Please Help!
Thanks
Michelle

you will have to be very patient with her michelle. If she has been kept in a confined space, she will have had little choice but to toilet in a small area, and she may not understand what you want her to do. You could try popping her lead on and taking her for a short walk instead of letting her out in the garden, and offer lots of praise when she does the toilet, keep doing this over and over and she will learn in time. or you could try putting her on her lead and walking her around the garden instead of just letting her out, that way the mild exercise may stimulate her into going to the toilet, again, lots of praise should be offered :-)

Hi Michelle :)
You will need to go back to basics and treat her as if she was a puppy.
Outside after meals , when she wakes up and probably every half hour to begin with. When she does wee outside praise her and maybe even give her a treat.
If she has an accident inside try not to react in anyway.
Clean any accidents with a mix of biological washing powder and water which should break down the ammonia and remove the smell (so she isnt encouraged to wee in the same place)
Also remember she may be stressed by a new environment so dont expect miracles :)
Good luck
