would the rspca do anything/nothing if i reported a vastley overweight young dog?

Probably nothing, though to my mind it is equally cruel to let  any animal become grossly overweight as it is to undernourish it.

it is so cruel ,you should see this bitch ,shes no more than 2 1/2, is as wide as a table,her belly is hanging half way down her legs,her bum is so misshapen with fat that her tail starts 3"  before her bum ends, & the amount of fat around her neck & shoulders,well im suprised she can move her head,
she is going to have all sorts of health probs &prob a heart attack!

I would report it, but it's all dependent on proving whether the dog is actually suffering. A 2.5 yr old dog should be very energetic and wanting to play so if , in your mind, it's life is not good quality them there may be a case for cruelty. It is just as cruel to overfeed as to underfeed IMO

ahh yes i agree its equaly bad to let a animal become so overweight as underweight . i saw a corgi and his belly was so big i was dragging on the floor . all i could think about was the friction burn and sore back the poor mite must have . but its seen as an over caring owner that treats its animal too much rather then neglect

Let us know if the rspca does anything.  I saw a lab recently that was so overweight it could barely walk.  As it waddled it's way to me and my dog to say hello all its owners did was laugh at it.  You could see every step was an effort. I was horrified.

I would report it.  I think I remember a case of RSPCA taking action against an owner of a Dalmatian that was hugely overweight. 

Also there 2was s poor dog of our breed in the USA who was rescued and was so overweight that it needed an operation to remove the hardened fat pads that were around the tail and causing problems with defecation.  He had ben put on a diet but cewrtainb arteas were just solid fat.  I think he was nearly 3 times the proper weight.

What breed is she Michelle? just out of curiosity.....

This is one of those cases where the new Animal Welfare Act/Bill will be of benefit as I think it includes "likely to cause suffering" .

I went for a walk with my pup and a friend in a different area last week and it was obviously well used by dog walkers but apart from one young collie they were all very overweight.  I made a fuss of one small dog and could not even find her ribs under all the weight she was carrying :-((
